Using the cleaner is definitely a plus. Sharp chisel and a clean table!

Awesome job. First, the 45 degree chamfer on the legs. Router with a chamfer bit. But using a power tool in pine is over kill and it's noisy and that can add to the stress level. More enjoyable way is to mark lines on both sides of the post, which you wish to cut back to. Then using a good saw make the cut. A good saw is one that you enjoy using. I just bought a $18 Irwin Tools pull saw, ultra thin kerf, and flies through rock maple with ease, leaving a very fine cut. Then pare with your chisels, bevel down thru the curve. What's missing from the video ? A couple of comments have asked about your stain and finish choice. I would like to know, that looks to be a gorgeous table.

You say you are not a professional... What I see is business opportunity! The table came out amazing and if you had a lathe I bet you could make those legs by your self too!

Hello! What do you call those legs that you used at 7:40 to hold the table? Thanks!
@kylescott62257 жыл бұрын
I did our dining table, with different leg design. Trussel legs, so i did threaded inserts. Really hard to do with soft wood. Wood glue was needed to to keep insert from backing out after applying the bolt

I see someone mentioned it, but I would definitely get a router. You can get a decent one and a variety of bits without breaking the bank. In most cases, your infamous .45 Special will do just fine, but routers are quick and easy once you get the hang of it and offer a wide variety of edge designs.

Nice work, what did you use for finishing ?
@DIYwithRick8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I used Minwax Polyshades. It was a HUGE mistake. It just wouldn't go on evenly. I even used wood conditioner prior to the application! I ended up sanding it down, re-applying the stain and then applying a few coats of semi-gloss polycrylic. I think it turned out really nice in the end but blotchier than I would have liked!

I'm even less of a pro but if I were to make those cut-outs on the legs, I would use a belt sander to get the majority of the wood out of the way, then hand sander to clean it up. Might be more work but I'm god-awful with a chisel so I try to avoid it at all costs.
@DIYwithRick8 жыл бұрын
Belt sander...hmm! Hadn't thought of that...probably because I don't have one!
