fight 4 vs the bardiche barb w/ crush is a perfect example of why you should be trying to hilt block. If you hilt block the first bardiche swing you can actually fight him. Without it, you're so heavily staggered that he can just swing you to death. Get in a little closer than you'd like and stuff your shield right at their hands, generally aiming at the chest and off to the side. Its the best way to completely shut down a barb

You have inspired me to play more PDR longsword fighter. Its harder than swordnboard but parrying and then killing somone in 2 swings is such an amazing feeling. The longsword also is great for pve as you can sidestep mobs as they attack and swing your block onto their attack to kill them with a quick riposte to the head. After just a few games ive developed a strategy for goblin caves to head to the middle, kill the 2 centipedes in the middle, then 1 centipede and 1 mummy to the south, then head north above the center lift tile and kill the 2 mummies there, then north to the next tile and kill the 2 mummies there. Thats 8 enemies with a high chance for rings and necklaces as loot. From there i like to head one tile east and check the mines for players, kill and mine and copper/cobalt. If no players i head west to the cyclops spawn and see if players have killed the cyclops then fight/loot the boss treasure room. Im getting 600-1000 gold each run being ablemto sell good loot on the market and im starting to gain confidence to make geared runs

Good method of shopping. Though if you are going to search for a specific roll then you don't need to filter for uncommon, that way you will also see higher rarities if they happen to be a lower price.

Some things I've noticed that get you caught You make some dark areas too large, which makes it obvious where you are You only make one dark area at a time, if you made 3 dark spots in any given area it would be a gamble for other players where you're hiding You never use darkness as a distraction, you could create a dark spot and hide in the light on the other side perhaps behind some barrels or crates, other players will be so cautious of the dark spot they won't expect you not to be in it.

33:06 - he might have hit the floor but I believe you can block high impact weapons without staggering by blocking the sour spot/shaft of the weapon. Putting a shield up in their face seems like the winning strategy against barbs theres also the perfect block skill but who's really using that... maybe try it out!

hey thanks for the note! comments like this are super encouraging :) blocking in PvP is definitely hard, but it gets easier in time. maybe just sstart with looking for overhead attacks at first? don't even try to block the jump shots or side-swipes. look for flanged maces and try blocking those first! build confidence. as for the adventure results, that's what you see at the end of a high-roller run, since it tracks your Adventure Points and lets you level up based on your performance each raid. good luck!!

If needed, you can choose max hp or hp bonus instead of vigor. Necklace of peace is a good budget item instead of bear amulet. You can get a ton of hp from the right neck.

I've come back to this video from the future! Fighter just got buffed and it's glorious. Swift reduces your movement speed penalty even better, and Weapon Mastery no longer has a negative. Also, the Morning Star is fantastic. And the Halberd is good fun, if challenging to use effectively. I've taken to using Laced Turn shoes, Loose Trousers, either the Dark Cuirass or Dark Plate, Light Gauntlets, and the Spangenhelm or Crusader Helm. My Vigor isn't the best but with just uncommon gear and Swift, you run close to 100% move speed with your hands empty. I've used it with the halberd, I've run it with shield and morning star, I even tried it with dual wield daggers.

Observations about the barb fight, Blinn could have used sprint to make distance while healing. Blinn also got 1 "barrel stuff" block on the bardiche handle which did not stagger the shield, so Blinn could try to face-hug against bardich for more of those. Edit: It seems the sentiments have already been expressed elsewhere in the comments, so I leave this. If Rogues are the watchers in the dark, then who watches the watchers?

If you are facing a barbarian who is defeating your blocks with impact power, your window to attack is at the end of his combo. You were doing very well blocking him and it seemed like you only got hit when you tried to attack too early. That loss was a shame because I really feel like you had that guy out skilled.

About fight 4, fighting weapons that have the impact to stagger Heater its always best to block their sour spot, which is most likely the shaft/hilt area of the weapon. With the bardiche the best thing to do is literally stand face to face with him. Blocking at the sour spot of the overhead swing prevents him from getting to his stab (which has no sour spot). While it can seem intimidating not really being able to see your opponent over the shield at that close range, with him using the bardiche it was your best option for blocking. Another thing that Im sure you know but Im gonna put here for others. Fighting Warlocks/Ranged classes in general: They will almost always have higher MS than you, so its best to save sprint when you are already on top of them and they start to run/bhop away. Take the fight with the bow/crossbow (ever since warlock buffs 2 patches back I switched to recurve over crossbow), close space. When you can engage with your SnS if they start to run pop sprint to get a few more hits in. If fighting a warlock ONLY use sprint after they use phantomize, stay on top of them for the moment they come back out and you will win the close range fight unless you get absurdly gear checked. Also when moving up to ranged classes with shield you can jump, crouch, and block. This reduces your hitbox considerably and will block all warlock spells/curses, all forward shooting wizard spells (but you will still get hit by aoe on fireball), and ranger arrows/bolts. Keep in mind that you also keep all momentum while jumping, so only block once you begin the jump so that way you can cover slightly more distance. A little tidbit about fireball, it has pretty good knockback so if you jump crouch over it and the wizard hits the floor it can fling you towards the wizard, pretty funny when it happens.

33:03 when a brb roars like that in close proximity to u. u get a debuff u can see above ur health in red. During that time u r doin 40% leas damage. In this instance u should bait out a swing amd then get distance until the debuff wears off. Hitting him is almost pointless and trading with him during that time is almost a guaranteed loss.

I totally hear you & agree, mostly. the reason I don't mind fighting through the roar is that it shows the Barb that I don't care about their abilities and if I can block and counter-attack through the debuff, it's generally a morale loss on my opponent. this clip doesn't work out for me, but there have been lots of other instances where I fight a barb clear through the roar debuff and ultimately they turn and run. tbh I find it so funny and satisfying to make the strongest melee class turn and run from me in fear haha :)

I've been running full plate from the squire 50% pdr with shield out. Going into high rolla clearing has been slow but being able to take 3 to 4 hits from mistakes is nice. Great video btw. Keep it going.

hey there, thanks for your comment! it's always awesome to hear people are having some success using the recos I put forward, congrats!! you are correct in recognizing there is a big diff between solos & duos/trios. when trying to optimize the fighter build for team play, first you got to think: are you going to be a frontline tank, or are you going to be a flanking shield fighter? you can almost carbon-copy the solo build for use in tram play if you're not going frontline. if you are going to be responsible for soaking up melee/ranged/magic damage, you need to have plate/PDR. also stick to the block-first mentality, since every opponent swing you take off the table buys your team time to do damage and win the fight!

Greens are no longer cheap, I've been making a mint off them since that patch. But I did find the searching for like attributes a fun exercise. as someone who always plays plate fighter with the movement speed for plate talent I think it's better for trios, you dont really need all that ms as long as you have a decently balanced party with say a druid and anything else your party members are staying back anyway so they can help you cut fleeing opponents off and the plate makes you a 2v1 god

I got kited by a rat so bad today I had to take legs and chest off to catch him, haha, so plate def has it disadvantages too, but in a 1vx it's awesome to have. The verticality thing is huge for plate fighter especially it feels so good to drop down in full plate on some mage class. I often cheese the slow ms that way or dimming torches like you did on the looting fellow.

5:30 there is some missinformation about Vigor recovery here. This is copy-past from Wiki: Affects the rate at which you restore health when Resting, but not when using Bandages. Health Recovered per tick = Base Recovery * (1 + Health Recovery Bonus) For example, a Barbarian resting with 95% Health Recovery Bonus will recover Health Recovered every 2s = 1 * (1 + .95) = 1.95 Health It doesn't affect Bandages and Potions and I am pretty sure it doesn't affect Campfire bonus recovery, but can't confirm that.

I do use sprint, but almost always to close the gap. don't like to 'waste' it mid-fight in case my opponent decides to turn & run (they often do). which is why you don't see me popping it just to help with spacing :)

Personally, my "baseline kits" are blues, you can get some crazy kits for way under 1k. Except the rings and pendant, those stay green, they explode in price between green to blue.

@@YourBoyBlinn sticking with the green kit and keeping your gear score under 125 is the way to play, blue kits cost more as well as force you to be outmatched in higher gear score lobbies. They recently changed the gearscore from 25 to 125 so when you pass that 125 point, everyone will be geared

Buckler requires more skill because of how small it is. It's a fantastic shield, but with the way people swing their weapons, it has a distinct disadvantage against the bigger shields. Lantern shield is really cool, I've been learning how to use it properly. I imagine the Fighter's counterattack perk works pretty well with it.

I did a video on the buckler (& shield slam), you can see that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGO2nXqiqbaprqM lantern shield is similar to the buckler, in that it's small and requires a level of skill/precision that I'm not comfortable taking into HR just yet.. definitely strong potential there, but when it comes to reliably blocking spells & ranged damage, the smaller shields are much less forgiving. vs high-level opponents, I like the heater to give me more chances to erase their damage :)

How do you feel about using the Lantern Shield to counter morning stars? It has a better size than the Buckler and because of how it's counter attack works, gives you a pretty good timing window on block to do it, seems to work with counter attack and shield mastery

the biggest challenge to using a lantern shield vs morning stars is the lack of coverage that small shield gives your head. most clerics running morning stars will jump attack to get over your shield & land headshots, and about 40% of the time I find they can hit me over my heater, even with good block timing. IMO the upside potential for a riposte off the shield is not worth the extra risk of a smite headshot. PLUS, the lantern shield block power is not high enough to interrupt the morning star combo (i dont think), so even on a successful block, that cleric is just going to keep swinging. TL:DR I do not recommend!

@@YourBoyBlinn I've been experimenting with it, I think if it's damage was increased by a bit OR it's block power was put to 6 like the buckler for how similar it is, it would be good, but yeah the impact resist of 3 is too undertuned I hope they buff it because it's actually been incredibly fun, just really risky. And yes it cannot stop the morning star pattern, but if it's a cleric he's probably not got too much dex, and if hes not a MS cleric you might be able to get the first hit of the parry off, then run away, just don't spam the parry. Not tested as much as you tho prolly

Yeah I feel like it's because the Riposte is "easier to pull off" when the guard gets broken, trying it against a dagger requires precision timing, but I think if it did more damage and had a block value of 6 it would be perfect. High Skill Low coverage shield with high risk and high reward, btw love your vids, you made me switch fighter because your build is so fun and skill expressive, have a great day!

Really great job with the rogue, I really think they’re better off removing rogue than keeping them in their current state. Even though you were able to kill that rogue. It was purely his own choice to continue to engage you in my opinion incorrectly, his speed advantage was so grossly apparent he had complete control over that engagement and if he knew better on how to buy items in the same price range he would have been able to melt you in 3-4 hits or just leave and you couldn’t stop him.

So I've been having problems with making myself push into modules that I know will take time to clear out. Like pyramids on Ice Caverns. You can sneak around some of them yea but I'm always afraid that if I start clearing mobs someone will get the drop on me. I know most of my kills have come from stalking people and jumping them when they're covered in goblins. Got any advice for that? Just kill the PVE faster? Its the only thing I can think of lol

i guess my personal advice for that would be, if you are going to go in and clear the mobs make sure you are constantly being cautious of your surroundings. always look around, especially the doorways, make sure you are listening closely for any signs of other players, etc. basically prepare for what could very possibly happen, and play around that.

Don't turn lights off if you're PvEing. Keep your head looking around at where you could be attacked from. If lights have been turned off somewhere, it means someone was/is there and wanted them off to get an advantage. So you can by hyper cautious or avoid it. That goes for clearing areas of mobs NEAR where lights have been turned off. Only way to clear faster is to optimize damage up to and including better gear (but better spacing, attack, and avoidance is free).

my advice is to pay attention to the modules you feel most comfortable in, or that you otherwise prefer to take PvP. learn those modules and learn the mob spawns. makes it easier to clear mobs when you know what to expect.. also makes it easier to respond to a PvP attack if you're on familiar ground. generally speaking I'm always gravitating/routing to the same select modules to give myself that extra advantage. good luck to you!!

I honestly don't play HR that often, and challenged myself to do it for this vid. generally I find it more stressful than fun, but I wanted to put my skills to the test with green gear. but I totally believe you that those lobbies are quiet these days -- and I've *definitely* seen more super-geared players in normals the last couple nights... makes you wonder: whats the point of playing HR if you can score some bis gear against someone in normals, plus not have to worry about the mobs so much?! good luck out there!!

I used to run the leather gloves, great Dex! swapped out to the heavy gauntlets almost for the aesthetic haha.. anything on the hands that gives dexterity is great for shield fighter IMO :) good luck out there friend!

It really depends on what stat you need most, if you already have good dex then swapping out for heavy might be good. Either way I think that the Leather, Heavy, and Light gauntlets are all really good for shield fighter, as they all give good stats that SnS fighter can use.

on longsword fighter you want full plate or half plate. Most important thing is to get a high damage reduction helmet and additonal movement speed boots. build for vigor

a touchy subject indeed! longsword can be devastating and should not be taken for granted or underestimated. luckily I think I've found a way to get around most parries with my mace attacks, but I never think 'this is going to be easy'
