Since I am often asked which woods I have used: Beech for the sole Walnut from Germany for the body Plum for the wedge and elm for the handle. Da ich doch häufiger gefragt werde welche Hölzer ich verwendet habe: Buche für die Sohle Walnuss aus Deutschland für den Körper Pflaume für den Keil und Rüster für den Griff.

Beautifully done. I wish I understood the significance of the different wood types for the different parts.
@marchornig6709 ай бұрын
Thanks to you ;) I can explain them to you. Firstly, all types of wood are hardwood so that they can withstand the loads. The sole of the plane is made of beech wood because this is a very short-grained type of wood. So in the worst case only one corner would break off instead of splintering and tearing away long fibres of the sole. The body of the plane is made of long-grain wood (walnut) because this wood warps less and is more dimensionally stable. The plum wood wedge is very hard and therefore holds the blade optimally. And the elm wood handle just looks beautiful ;) I hope I was able to help.

Verrrrry nice jointer plane, and extremely original. You have managed to mix several different worlds and methods. I actually would have quite a few comments to make, but I won't. You've done a wonderful job and the plane has come out absolutely beautiful. I am not 100% sure about the three piece method. Of course it makes cutting the plane bed much simpler. Also, the pivoting wedge block pinned into the sides (??? 🧐). Okay on a smoother plane, but it doesn't apply all-round pressure like the traditional slotted wedges. However, looking at it performing the first time is pretty convincing. I would have glued that knocker bolt in the front with epoxy, because it's going to pop out one day. Sorry, I said I wouldn't make comments, but I did. I know everybody loves compliments only, but I'm an old boy with a little bit of experience, and I believe that discussions can advance more than simple compliments (which you deserve here). Greetings from France
@marchornig67010 күн бұрын
@@musamor75 Thank you very much for your words. Objective and constructive criticism (like yours) is always helpful. I had initially thought about gluing the bolt in at the front, but then I thought that if it should really come to meet me at some point, I could always do it later. So far at least it is still holding very well. I consider the method of making the plane from 3 parts to be the simpler one, but will of course also want to make some from one piece in the future. As it should be :) Greetings Marc

I have made a few planes, and I watched this. My takeaways. You only used two dowels for each side alignment. I have been using 4. I think I will try your way next time. Your cross pin, using washers to reinforce the side holes and it was a captive pin once sides glued up. Very nice. That I will be using. I have created ply’s like you for the handle but not on anything this large. Again I will look at that. You method of attaching the handle I have not seen before. I have used a traditional mortise. I like the steel strike button. Never seen the trick with the double sided tape on you sweater, fuzzing it up to make it easier to remove. That I will remember cool hack! Bottom line is how it cut curls, very nice looked like you where having a lot of fun, and that is the point!

Originally, this was also my plan, but when I had the rear handle mounted, I realized how much control I already have. I also think that a front knob would disturb the optics somewhat, which would not be a problem if necessary. First and foremost, it must work well, then it may look good. Finally, I thought, a knob I can still make later and attach if I change my mind, so I have omitted it for now.

Hi there! I’m an hobby woodworker and I want to be able to do it professionally in the future. Currently I’m still in school and I only work in my garage and I must ask a few questions; Is there any tips you’d like to pass on? What tools did you purchase/make that were a game changer? What are some mistakes that I should avoid making? Beautiful work by the way! Absolutely gorgeous! Keep posting! I love to see what others make.
@marchornig6704 ай бұрын
Hey WrightToolWorks! First of all, thank you very much for your kind words. I have to admit that I only work with wood as a hobby myself. Quite intensive but I haven't officially learnt it. Everything I know I taught myself or learnt from other KZbin videos. If you plan to work a lot with solid wood, the most important tool is probably the planer, then the saw. Circular table saw, band saw, plunge saw, handsaw. Each of these has its own advantages and strengths. But you should learn how to plane, because you can only build crooked furniture with crooked wood. My advice would be to try out as much as you can yourself, make attempts and don't just rely on what others say. Even end grain gluing can hold sufficiently in certain situations, even if everyone says it doesn't. Just as an example :) I always say "whatever works is allowed and try to keep it simple". I wish you much joy in your future profession. I hope you find a job that allows you to try yourself out. Greetings Marc

As is so often the case, many roads lead to Rome. Of course you are absolutely right, a good spokeshave would lead to the desired result more quickly. Unfortunately, I only have one that costs 8 euros, and that's exactly how it works :) But sanding or milling would also have been options. Thanks for your contribution. Greetings Marc

Y muchas gracias ;)

Do over, who absorbs your cost for all the products you use in the making process as well as the time that you spend on working out the layouts for the tables. By the way, I love your work. Cheers Bob.
