You really show that you do and have done a lot of research, I am thoroughly impressed. I literally go "ah" when you answer a question I was thinking or something I didn't even think about. You also are mysterious you pull something new out of your sleeve every video nonchalant like " this was in the grow tent" lol you have a secret compartment in there like Harry Potter 😂💚

Thanks James I'm looking forward to the moss wall updates..Definitely giving it a go in spring although I don't have quite the selection you have to choose from but I'll have time to accumulate a few in the upcoming months. Not sure about the rest of the world however downunder spaghnum moss is sustainable farmed in Tasmania and Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 and across the ditch in the south Island of New Zealand 🇳🇿 Lastly I was feeling a little lazy about working out before watching this vlog but I'm motivated to do some upper body exercises but especially bicep curls.💪🏽lol Inspiration can take many forms.😉.

Great video but it really would have been great if you could have had the camera down on the wall your building so we can see that as your building it and really see the process as you go. 😀 no hate just saying as long as we can still hear you talking and seeing the wall is what counts. Thanks for the video it was helpful 😀 love all your videos you have beautiful plants 🪴 ✌💜

Super helpful! if you did this again in the future, spray painting the shelves before doing it could help prevent rusting maybe

Also, many people have replaced peat with coco coir! I recently used up the last of my peat, finally, and ordered coco coir as a replacement. It seems to work very well for others so hoping it isn't too different.

yes I use this as a peat replacement sometimes too! Works great! Thank you 😍🌱

Hi James, I've just bought some live moss for some stubborn cuttings. Have you any tips on keeping the unused moss alive, as I'm quite small scale, re propping, and this bag will last ages. Thanks. I bought mine from the pet shop, where I get a lot of my substrates. Live moss is so pretty. Added bonus!

I’m pretty sure sphagnum can be sustainably grown and harvested. You can grow your own at home. 🌿
@erinhallmakes7773 жыл бұрын
I bet if you sprayed those panels with plasti dip really well and then cover it up the ends anywhere you cut it with plasti dip really well it will help prevent the rusting.
@whoputalltheseplantshere3 жыл бұрын
Concerning sphagnum - while the sustainable harvesting techniques are definitely less harmful than the usual practices, there's still some debate on whether they actually allow the sphagnum bogs to regrow for long enough. It's not 100% researched yet but sustainable sphagnum is way better. Thanks for caring about sustainability. You might want to look into pumice as a more sustainable perlite alternative! But I think you're doing great avoiding peat 🌿
@whoputalltheseplantshere3 жыл бұрын
Oh also love that you reuse it. Some people boil the moss that has been exposed to pests, as far as I know that works well
@JamesArmstrongPlants3 жыл бұрын
ah great to know thank you so much! I've just recently gotten some pumice actually so ill be interested to try that - I hear good things! Also re perlite - I heard some concerns about it and I find it harder to reuse in general so I haven't bought any since I got a big bag last year - still going - but after that I'll definitely move fully over to something else! Thank you so much - loads to learn!! 🌱🌱🌱
@whoputalltheseplantshere3 жыл бұрын
@@JamesArmstrongPlants yeah, people like that pumice doesn't float to the top of the pot as fast as perlite does! And it can be found and mined all across the globe and doesn't require further processing like perlite. I love how the community is starting to think more sustainably and I am so happy you're talking about it as well!
@JamesArmstrongPlants3 жыл бұрын
And thank you for helping me out!! 🌱😍 Super happy to be seeing more about it around - and to find out how I can do my bit!
@dan_ta_lion3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I just want to add that pumice also has some kind of controversy, there has been discussion of unethical harvesting of pumice and it concerns child labor, it is extremely important to identify where these products are manufactured whether be it perlite or pumice, recently there are companies who sources there pumice in a more ethical and sustainable way, just be aware of what you get, have a good day ❤

New to your channel, but I've heard a couple people say that they are replacing sphagnum moss with coconut husks/chips? Both for prop boxes and air layering. I'm not sure how ideal it would be but I think it is a bit more environmentally friendly than sphagnum moss.
@JamesArmstrongPlants3 жыл бұрын
I have a lot of coco chips/husks that i use for my aroid mix so definitely interested to try it for airlayering - ill let you know how it goes!! 🌱🙌 Thank you!!

Good idea! was keen to keep the smaller holes because they help lock the plants in place! If I decide to add any bigger ones I'll definitely try that though! 🌱🙌
