Check out this simple, low budget cable railing I built for the back of our house. After renovating our house exterior, the old, wobbly metal & vinyl lattice rail back there had to go. We wanted a clean & simple stainless cable railing, so I built this.
This is Part 2 where I show you how I prepped & stained the wooden posts (with homemade iron acetate wood stain) and installed the aircraft cable railings with low cost, stainless steel hardware. I had some problems cutting the 1/8" thick stainless cable, so I also show a cool little tool I bought that cut it quickly & easily.
Several people have commented that you should use 3" spacing between flexible cables instead of 4" like I used (which is pretty standard spacing for solid railing spindles), so I recommend checking with a local builder or inspector to see what size spacing you need between your cables to meet your local code before starting.
