Nice fence. A couple things: at 8:10 you spoke of the danger of breaking concrete while drilling. I suggest supporting the concrete on both ends with each end balancing itself so there is no gravity-induced flex in the concrete at the point of drilling. The prick post will provide more structure if it is placed closer to the end of the fence.

how many nails per feather width wise i.e. one to allow expansion? or two. Also do you go through the board beneath?

How is a fence allowed so close to the smaller building? Is there enough room for someone to wash the windows & maintain siding?
@darrenandjodie5933
@darrenandjodie5933 3 жыл бұрын
Good and have done this before, but the timber post could have gone closer to the tree to help stabilise the rails. Plus the rails wouldn't have dropped as its bolted to the concrete posts and the feather edge sit on the gravel board stopping it from dropping. Other than that great job 👏 👍
@JamesMontana
@JamesMontana 3 жыл бұрын
The feathers sitting on top of the gravelboards isnt usually enough to hold everything in place. What happens is, over time they tend to slip off the top ove the boards and that post and centre stump prevents that. Thanks for your comment.
@darrenandjodie5933
@darrenandjodie5933 3 жыл бұрын
@@JamesMontana yes thats correct the centre stump stops the feather edge slipping off which you done on the concrete post in the middle ☺

Most geezers smash a wallplate onto tree with four inch nails and board to it. Yours is much neater. A lot of its cost. You probably got ten mins to board the last bay to be competitive round here. Longer and you are losing money. Good job
@JamesMontana
@JamesMontana 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is so competitive at the moment. Everyone seems to be a fencer these days but you want to get yourself into the position that even if you are more expensive the client will still go with you because they absolutely know youre guaranteed to do a good job. That piece of mind costs money 💰😉

What about when the tree grows and pushes against the rails?
@JamesMontana
@JamesMontana 2 жыл бұрын
The tree is very old and not likely to grow anymore. Rails are set back 2" away from the tree and the feather 10mm which is sacrificial

Since when do trees stop growing? If it has stopped growing it seems it would be dead or diseased and better off being removed.
