Put your posts in the holes in the winter, and add water to the top of the hole. When it freezes, the ice will be as strong as the concrete, and at minimal cost.

My dad was an engineer and volunteered my brother and I to work with him in a family business, materials and welding engineering. We had a piece of equipment which had a plaque that had a statement, "one test is worth ten thousand expert opinions". Thats for the quality test.👍

As with all foam products, application is key. How well the products are mixed and how warm it is play major roles in the product performing as it should. The hotter the temps, the better.

Thanks James - I had 2 fencing guys tell me that breaking in to my Indian Sandstone paving to remove the broken fence post was the only solution. I’d have an ugly square of concrete surrounding the new post! I followed your video to the letter and the 3” x 3” 2ft deep post lifted out easily with my 93kg self standing on the end of a 30” breaker bar. Thanks for the video!

Dude! We’re building a brick fence around our property. I was looking for DIY videos on how to attach wood cedar to the brick pillars. I was thinking like ‘eh, this guy looks familiar.’ Little did I know - YOU DO rugs AND OUTDOORSY STUFF TOO?! That’s so cool!! I’m subscribed here too! Nice!!

At least the wobbly post came out easy so he could redo it properly with concrete. Easy removal that's one pro!😅 Thanks for the video I won't be tempted to try that product myself.

My experience with fence posts (treated or cedar) has been that, when the post starts to shrink, the concrete holds water in the hole that rots the post. I’ve had much better experience using gravel around posts - instant drainage. Even if the lifespan of the posts was the same in either case, you don’t have to get an excavator and a jackhammer to remove the stump from concrete.

Dunno what the heck you've done there, but this is not how post foam normally behaves! I've used it lots and have never had a single post that's wobbled like yours.

This guy had no clue about the basic world. For one thing concrete is a huge sponge and holds water forever and almost never dries causing posts to rot. With that you are not blocked for the rest of my life.

Easier modification: use two long lag bolts (similar to what he used) to fasten a loop of very heavy chain to the top of the rotten post. The loop of chain must be big enough so that a 4x4 fence post can slip into it. Then use your new fence post as an 8 foot lever to lift the post out of the ground. No need to buy a plate or saw the top of the rotten post. The 8 foot fence post acts as an incredibly powerful lever (use another fence post, or two, as a fulcrum). I’ve done this successfully many times. The only cost is the lag bolts and the chain!

I have used the foam to set a temp fence at a commercial construction site. Its is fast, the only problem is that after a heavy rain, the posts floatted and fell over. I had to got back and reset about half of the fence. A couple 100 ft.
@barrycraig1549
@barrycraig1549 11 күн бұрын
The solution to the problem is to fill your holes with the post in it with pea gravel. Tamper in place and the water can flow and not puddle and you will not get that pole silt

Great video, quick question about those concrete posts, did you drill a hole completely through and attach the wooden fence with a coach bolt?

Brilliant. Posts always rot where they go into the ground, but where there is no oxygen below ground they dont rot. When replacing posts use a PostSaver Post Protector plastic sleeve - another genius idea.

Hi, Great video, very informative, I had 4 fence posts to take out, 2 came out ok, 1 was rotten all the way down to the bottom, so had to drill that one out, the other is stuck fast in the concrete. I have done what you have said and started off with a small amount of wood so the lever angle is working the best way possible, but still won't budge, tried putting all my weight on the end of a 5 foot pinch bar and started bending the pinch bar. Any ideas as to how to get the posts to start moving at least?

Good bit of information. We tend to go quite a bit deeper into the (soft) ground here though, as otherwise the wind will cause you to end up with a ramp rather than a fence. For a 1.8m fence it is common to use 2.7m posts, so that is one third under ground and you need considerably more force than you showed here to get the first bit of movement. The method that works for me is to drill a hole sideways through the pole (yes that requires a little digging in the top soil if the pole is already snapped) through which I feed the handle bar of a tubular box wrench. Then a chain goes on connected to both sides and I use a jack to pull the post out either with or without the help of an additional bar depending on where I can stand the jack.

If your using the same concrete hole it would be a good idea to steep the bottom of the new post into old diesel or engine oil and leave it to seep through the wood and that will give more protection.
