Just in time for the first Don Von Gun Jr.Bushcraft Club trip of the year! The kids aren't being allowed to take tents this year, so we'll see what sort of shelters they come up with. Musen looks good. Cayden wants me to make sure and tell you 18 kids in the club last year, 26 this year. Beautiful video as usual! Good to see you this morning.

I have been waiting for a video from him. It was well worth the wait. I love his vids, and watching him create is a joy! First Nation and Native American peoples used animal sinew in many ways, especially as cordage. It could be used in a way that when it dried it stayed firmly in place. Or it was worked into soft pieces and used to make clothing and various other items. They hunted animals to eat and used almost all parts of the animal in their daily lives. Of course, they also used plant material like the gentleman in this video. I find it fascinating the desire of modern people wanting to return to more primitive methods. I believe it is, in part, a desire to be more in touch with the Earth and the natural world. I, too, have those same desires and find myself studying birds, insects, plants, and small creatures I encounter in my urban life.

Thank you Katherine :) I love thinking about solving a problem, and then find the solution. At the same time I am in the nature, which makes it worth much more. :)

I've some very impressive bushcraft home videos on here, but Don, you definitely rank up there as A-#1 on the list. If I had the property, I would love to build something like this. No power tools! Your hands, an axe, saw and hunting knife are all you need. I love the door hinge design. Fantastic video, fantastic meal and i especially love the "piece de resistance" of enjoying a few swigs from the flask in front of the campfire after a nice, hearty meal. 👍👍👍👍😉😉😊😃👍👍👍👍

i feel like the door hinging upward instead of sideways would have been easier on the hinge and maybe even more convenient afterwards acting as a visor/overhang to prevent precipitation getting through doorway

If I had it on top, I would have to walk bent over to get in and out. I would also have to make some kind of stopper for the door not to fall down, and it would most likely be in the way. It doesn't matter if it is wet where I get in. Like in most tipis, from the entrance to the fireplace is where you walk. On the sides and back, is where you sit. The opening on top of tipis is also between entrance and fireplace. I made it to help keep the wickiup warm.

Very interesting and impressive. What dog breed is that? Do you find that coat gets muddy and wet, and finding ticks is challenging? I mention it because I'm looking for a good 'wild camping' dog... Some of those I like have coats that, in theory, would be less practical than, say, a Lab or Elkhound. Thank you for an engrossing film. 😊
@DonVonGunАй бұрын
She is a labradoodle, half lab half poodle. She has inner and outer coat. She gets dry pretty fast. She is 90 % allergy free. A lab would also be nice. But an Elkhound would have it to hot here, specially in the summer time. But a very nice dog. ...thanks :)

What was the life expectancy of this type of shelter? Was it to winter until migratory season to follow game or was it a year around home? A village of these or just a hunting party encampment? I guess I could read a book.....LOL Yeah, you have made me want to do just that! BEST shelter build I've seen yet. Authentic. "DO as the animals do". Great nesting skills.
