In this video, I am in the workshop making a small word burning stove out of an old beer can. This is the first of three stove build videos that I will be making, all using recycled materials. I love making my own gear and always try to up-cycle materials whenever possible.
This project can easily be made using simple hand tools rather than the power tools and machinery that I use in the video. Hand tools are often cheap to buy second hand if you look at the online auction sites or rummage at car boot sales (flea markets) or yard sales.
I hope you enjoy the video, thanks for watching!

Making "sumthin' outta nuthin' " is a laudable trait. You're only limited by your imagination and the circumstances of the moment. Well done, sir. A gentleman near me went to Walmart and used something similar to the stainless steel utensil holder you featured (it was a pen/pencil holder) and crafted a small stove out of it. A Dremel tool and some time was all he needed. Keep up the good work, sir. Thank you for what you do.

It's good to see there's someone else in the world who knows how to use an army tin opener! My mates really struggle with those 🤣 they're the only ones I ever use for reliability reasons. Anyway, good project. I've got a couple of those cans that I've kept to get creative with. Thanks for the inspiration 👍😁

Me & my next door neighbors grand son who’s 16 built one of these out of a old fire extinguisher , it’s ok but I asked for one of those fancy ones for Christmas . I got one & I just burned it in . It’s cool to see how titanium looks once it’s burned In , all the purples & blues & greens & oranges from the metal turning color . I used birch to start it & plum to get a hot long lasting Cole to keep the metal hot for a wile just so I knew the oils were burnt off of it . These things are great you can burn any dry tender in them & whip up some great grub & a hot drink in minutes .

That's brilliant. It's inspired me to do a project during my upcoming winter campout with friends. I'm going to see if I can make something like this with just a pair of snips and a church key can opener out in the middle of the woods, and then cook my dinner on it. I'll report back.
@jamesellsworth9673
@jamesellsworth9673 2 жыл бұрын
A CHURCHKEY as a tool: that is a GREAT IDEA! No reason for the ventilation openings to be round. I suppose one problem would be punching the triangles far enough up and down on the body of the can? The churchkey would be perfect for making a few openings around the base of the can. I wonder if one would need as MANY openings as Simon used? I am INTERESTED in hearing how your project goes!😍

Making DIY camping gear are great projects .....loved the Hiram banjo intro, very apt.......others have probably aready commented but if you leave cutting the lid off till last you will maintain the maximum structural integrity of the can through most of the cutting and drilling. Rekon it would be great to make a DIY 'Picogrill 85' style wood stove, not sure anyone's done that on KZbin

Sapporo cans are steel and rock solid. They are not quite cylindrical but tapered and faceted. Nice looking cans. I made a little stove out of a steel mini keg. Worth looking at for a mini tent stove. Obviously all these projects require commitment to considerable drinking of the contents.

I'm looking forward to seeing the other videos too. I had a collection of cans, baby formular and others, in my pantry ready for making a stove or two. I went camping just before Christmas and when I got home my daughter had cleaned out my pantry. Sadly she threw my cans out and the recycle bins had been emptied by the time I got home. I need to collect more cans again now. 🙂

A good way of supporting the thin metal whilst you are working on the can is to fill it full of water and put in the freezer. You will need to make sure you don't get any water on the power tools as it melts. Good job & another great video. 👍👍😁
