Build custom elevators on ANY lot in The Sims 4! | No Mods, No CC |

A quick tutorial showing how to build custom elevators on any lot in The Sims 4, without mods and without custom content!
Two methods are shown, one of which requires the Realm of Magic game pack, but the other is Base Game compatible!
The demo lot used can be found on the Sims 4 Gallery (EA ID: DorianKoholi).

Dorian Koholi - Useful episode. It’s odd that elevators are not a standard build item, but this is a decent way to add an elevator, so it’s great that you did a quick episode on it. re: (05:22) ‘Another trick you can do it you don’t have “Realm of Magic” is to use ladders. […] It does take a little longer.’ - We’ve used ladders so often; actually prefer them to stairs most of the time - so easy to add anywhere. It does take a little longer, though, as you say. We’re filming an episode now in a building with four floors, and two of them are connected with ladders, so it takes time for the Sims to reach the target location. Still a decent solution, though.

you saved me lots of headache! I didn't know the elevators can only be used in apartments, tried to add one to my multi level high school cuz they are always late to class using stairs ughhhh oh well

Thank you ! Your video helped to improve my build so much. I also wanted to let you know that the elevator shaft can be 2x3 and the portal room 1x3 or 1x4 . With this L -ish shape set up you can place stairs nearby. Thanks again Dorian !

Thanks! When I saw that the apt elevators worked like a portal but wouldn't work on a regular lot, I thought about the realm of magic portals, then found your tutorial here while trying to find out how to make another creator's elevator work. Unfortunately, each portal is a one-way trip, but if you build a 3x3 "elevator room," you can put the portals adjacent to each other and have a portal going and one coming. So that works and don't take as much space. I've tested the portals, and they worked when I told my Sim to leave her video game and go to the 1st floor, but she turned around and went back to it. :) They are not aligned on top of each other, and in once case it's two portals in the 3x3 room, and on the other floor, they are two side-by-side.

Yeah, there are a few packs that include elevators but you can only use them for certain lot types, and you can’t use them to get to multiple floors on a lot. This is kind of a workaround for that so you can use them anywhere and in multiple floors.

Excellent but how would you get your Sim's friends to go through that same portal say if they were visiting? You can't control anyone else not in the household.

It’d work the same way you’d get a Sims friend to go anywhere, really. You can use the “Call Over” (I think that’s what it is called) function, can Call to Meal, ask to WooHoo in a bed or shower that’s on a higher floor, etc…

This is very useful however because there is only one portal exit on each remaining floor the sim will have to go all the way to the bottom to enter to another level this is where the extra portals come in you can actually slightly have them overlapping even in a 2x2 room and it will work so that sims can travel between any floor however three portals only 3 floors to travel up and down but with the trick of extra portal exit as an extra floor works too

I'm trying to use portals but the sim does not go through the portal. Do they have to be directly on top of each other in order for them to work?

You won’t be able to click on the portal directly, but if you click the ground or an object on the level you want them to go to, they should go through the portal automatically.

@@DorianKoholi yeah this doesn't work unless portals are aligned perfectly on top of each other. I ended up opting for ladders because my sims couldn't recognize they need to take portal to get to second floor and so on. Also when they did get to 2nd floor thru the portal, they didn't know how to go back down 😐

@@EraLily Are you using the same number for the Portal Entrance and the Portal Exit (ie, if you’re using Portal Entrance 1, you need to use Portal Exit 1 for the other end). They shouldn’t have needed to be on top of each other, so I’m not sure what’s up. Im glad you were able to find a workaround with the ladder, at least. If you’d like, if you wanted to upload the build to the gallery, I’d be happy to take a look at it?

@@DorianKoholi yes I understand the video and description when it said I need to match enters with exits, it still only works if they are directly on top of each other and I can’t go back from exit to entrance.
