She's the real thing. There are very few real songwriters around in the traditional sense of melody originality and invention. It requires work and genius. Sarah is my current favorite.

I am 69 years old and have played guitar since I was 15. I have played with bluegrass musicians and others who use that traditional instrumentation. Very little surprises me, but until I heard "Jealous Moon" and watched the video, I have never heard of the octave mandolin. Now I'm thinking of selling one of my Taylors and getting one. This sound is piercing my heart. Just my luck, I bet they're not cheap, either.

Depends, buy a Toyota or a Mercedes-Benz and enjoy saving money but having a ugly play or spending money and having a great sound. The nice thing is, you get to make that choice, the bad thing is you have to live with that decision for a long time of happy or not happy f o r e v e r!

First heard this lovely song on public radio in Oregon, and bought the CD. Sarah's soul truly shines in her music...and watching her play Build Me Up From Bones literally brought tears to my eyes!

I saw Sarah open for Richard Thompson many years ago. She was barely 21, and she killed it. So brilliant as a singer, songwriter and a multi-instrumentalist.

This woman plays every possible instrument better than any I've ever played any, and that's quite a few. Sarah is awesome.

That woman plays every possible instrument better than "I play the radio", and I'm a really good radio player if I do say so myself, and I do and so do you and.....

I love the comment about where you strum, over the neck vs near the bridge... that's where a quality instrument really makes a difference and I only discovered that nuance when I got my first good quality mandolin... can barely hear the difference on my cheap beginner one.

octave mandolin! the difference is that a mandocello is tuned like a mandola (CGDA) but one octave lower, whereas an octave mandolin is tuned like a mandolin (GDAE) but one octave lower

Only a few years younger than today. So I'd guess around 23 or so. Young compared to Gillian Welch, but a seasoned veteran compared to, say, Billie Eilish.

How do you tune something with a capo on the fretboard? Doesn't that make tuning difficult? Hmmm.
@MrPHart7 күн бұрын
If your in tune with open tuning, would you not be in tune if you put a capo on? All you have done is shorten the neck with a capo, but I always recheck my tuning after placing the capo on, you know insurance just in case the neck is not straight.

Can you put mandolin strings on a mandocello?
@MrPHart7 күн бұрын
Maybe but not likely as a mandolin string is shorter, just depends on the length right?
@mickaelgauvin47804 жыл бұрын
GDAE ?
@v28073 жыл бұрын
Mickaël GAUVIN I think I heard someone at the beginning ask if she had the strings tuned in octaves. She said “the G and the D”. So I think the tuning is Gg Dd AA EE. But capoed at 3. So actually, A#a# Ff CC GG. (If that’s the right way to write it.)
