I found out about intermittent fasting in 2017. I did it to feel better not to lose weight although I lost about 10 pounds. I am 6’2” 177 pounds. I am a concrete pump owner operator and it is amazing how much energy I have at work. I finished eating between six and 8:00 PM and I don’t eat the next day until after 12 o’clock, sometimes 2 3 or 4 o’clock even. I have turned on numerous coworkers and friends. Some have a tougher time doing it but they are all benefiting from it and thanking me for the free information on how to not be tethered to food… It is liberating! It is in my opinion… The holy grail.

I've been using IF on and off for years but I gained a lot of weight last year after a hernia operation. I've been doing strict 16:8 and since July I've lost 27 pounds. For the 1st time I didn't just use cardio to lose weight, I've been lifting weights and I've been able to retain or maybe even put on some muscle while losing fat. Right now I have 3 meals a day, lunch is my own muesli made with oats, cornflakes and dried fruit, 4 o'clock is a protein shake, casein and whey, bananas and oats and then around 7-8 I eat a normal meal with my family. One big thing I love about IF is you learn to control your hunger, instead of it being the other way around. I'm hitting 50 in November and trying to be in the best shape of my life.

Fasting is a tool - not only does it build appetite- you drop sugar levels - you reset the body and increase the growth hormone not to mention you body goes through a process which it clears out poor cells. Also I would also note that this isn’t something that one should try with our gradual practice. Most already eat in windows - it is more of a mental and physical reset. If you are spiritual you know the other benefits 😉

Everytime I go on a cut I do rolling 48 hr fasting until I hit my goal. It's so easy because I don't have to count shit, when I do eat I eat until I get stuffed, and after the first couple weeks you don't even get hungry until it's almost time to break the fast. Love the content. I've done 72 hour fasts multiple times throughout the last year and felt like I definitely had benefits from it mentally and physically, but the refeed day always seemed to be a bit too much for me, was a pretty big struggle to not over indulge afterwards for me, even eating clean foods. I just couldn't get enough of whatever I was eating. I think a couple throughout the year are definitely worth the learning experience alone though. Definitely didn't think I'd ever have that in me when I was a bit younger and unhealthy.

I totally agree to the benefits you talk about. Done a few 72's myself. As far as refeeding, I've found a carnivor type diet works perfect before and after a fast. What stopped me is to stop trying to have "the perfect" refeed. Through many trails ive realized the best thing for me is to just eat what I want. I get some good protein in, some fruit and maybe some fiber then the rest I eat what I want. So if I'm fasting and I crave something like junk food I wait until my fast and eat it. For me personally, I've used intermittent fasting since 2018 to go from a 250 lb bulked-up meathead to a 215 lb ultra-runner....all while being 100% natty and doing 90%+ of my training and running totally fasted. People see me in the gym lifting and mistake me for a bodybuilder, then almost freak out when I tell them I'm a long-distance runner. Also, I'm about to 36 this year and have NEVER been in this kind of shape ever......and fasting IS the key. #ItsLikeSteroidsButNotCheating #AlsoTotallyHealthy

I tried fasting during the day and during the night. I found fasting in the day was difficult in the first 3 days then it was ok later on. I would wake up early around 6am and get my coffee and heavy breakfast then I don’t eat anything till lets say 7pm when I feast on a decent meal. During they day I would drink water only. I found that when I have my eating window in the morning, I keep craving unnecessary foods like chips or sweets, and also lost focus at work. I found I started eating less at night, portions became smaller and my sugar craving became less. The whole point is don’t think that “This is my eating time I should binge!” Otherwise you will definitely gain weight and mostly will be fat.

I've still yet to go 24 hours without eating/drinking any calories. No clue why I have this mental block as I've been Intermittent Fasting for a few months now, and day 1 was a 23:1, which I found a bit much and switched to 21:3 for the entire first month before then adjusting again to a more flexible 23:1, 21:3, 18:6, 16:8, 23:1, 12:12, 12:12. I also give myself a day _free_ for social or business events where it would look odd if I didn't eat, and the 12:12's on the weekends may end up being 18:6's if I know I am going to an event where I am going to consume a decent amount of calories, though I have only exceeded my daily caloric _allowance_ (I am trying to lose weight atm as I just got far to complacent and sedentary during the lockdowns. I was a bit ashamed for a while, but that obviously doesn't do any good to anyone. In addition, what is more shameful being lackadaisical and gaining weight, or being lackadaisical about it and not taking care of it?). Anyway, if I start to stall in my weight loss, or if my lifts/workouts start to go down in either performance or intensity over an extended period of time then I will certainly adjust something, and a prolonged fast seems like it would be more productive to introduce as a tool than going off restriction in general as even when I get to my target weight and body fat percentage, I still plan on keeping track of my calories and macros. Idk, I kinda like it. Hopefully by then (I assume within 3 months give or take) I will be able to just go with the way my body feels after eating/not eating again though, and the tracking won't need to be as thorough or via an ap. Of course if I wasn't restricting 750-1500 calories/day I probably wouldn't need to track my macros to begin with. Lol, we'll see when the time comes. I do plan to keep fasting regardless as I do like the way I feel a bit more than when I at 2-5 times per day, and far better than when I was eating...gheesh, it seems like constantly during the mini-lockdowns as working from home I continuously found my work finished in a few hours as opposed to the office where I could always find more work to do, someone to help, or I could just disappear to the gym for a couple of hours. At home it's just, well when I am done I'm done, and that kitchen was sooooo close. I definitely felt like ass and didn't even realize it. I was always tired too. I would take naps because I would have a hard time sleeping more than 3 or 4 hours at night, but that in turn led to 2, 3, sometimes 5! hour naps, which in turn made sleeping at night more difficult, then when I would wake up I was famished. It is a bit ludicrous now that I look back at it. I think I went a year without having salad or *ANY* leafy green vegetables. And I really like salad. Not a little bit, I mean I really like it. You know those people who go to Olive Garden and fill up on Breadsticks? I'm the one who would eat two large bowls of salad then barely touch whatever appetizer and entre I ordered. And yes, you can still call Olive Garden's main dishes entres even if most are frozen. If they added cucumbers to their salad, oh my goodness. Great, I'm barely 10 hours into today's fast and now I am craving salad. Thanks guys, big help ;^) .

as a hardgainer i wish i could just fast consistently. i did do a fast to start this bulk cycle and it felt very good. the best thing about fasting is that even if you lose muscle, you lose fat WAY more and very very quickly relative to muscle. You can maintian muscle while fasting and losing weight but even if you are lackasical I feel like you'll still lose 10lbfat:1lb muscle or some nice ratio like that. I remember being able to jump very high after last time I did a 2 week fast or so because my legs still retained muscle

I've been mulling over eating slightly reduced calories during the week, while also doing a variation of the 5:2. My maintenance is around 3000, so was thinking of doing 2500 5 days and 1400 on 2 non-consecutive days (Friday/Sunday as I don't train on those days and generally just go for a walk). Would this be okay? I know generally the 5:2 is either extremely low to no calories in the 2 days, but I'm thinking of keeping it at 1300 - 1400 to get my daily amount of protein and some fat/carbs. I'd still be looking to stay in a 12 hour fast, but that's how I've been eating anyway. Would this be okay?

Hello mates , I’m struggling a lot to get these 2 questions answered. In this clip you are mainly mentioning not going hard in your training sessions during a 24/48/72 fast . What about training hard in a fasted state during a 16/8 intermittent fast ? What are the chances of muscle catabolism if your total protein intake is 2.4-2.7/kg ? Thanks in advance guys! Appreciate it!
@briangentilello244
@briangentilello244 Жыл бұрын
How can you possibly get all that protein in an 8 hour eating window??? Unless you weight less than 100kgs. Then in that case be a man and scrap the fasting bullshit and space out your meals. So stop lying to yourself you can’t possibly gain as much muscle/ go hard in the gym if you are intermittent fasting. Something has to go…

I personally can’t fast while I’m on a training schedule. 1. It’s hard to get 150-200g of protein when fasting. 2. my workouts NEED carbs to fuel it or I feel like I’m wasting my time. 3. The resistance training drains me too much and if I’m faster I just can’t perform the same inside and out of the gym

Intermittent fasting is certainly good for your body, but long term fasting is not if you are trying to build muscle. Don't listen to anybody who tells you to fast for days. Especially bodybuilders need to keep their protein high if they are lifting. Fasting for days reduces protein, and this is a fact.

Over eating all the time and relying on an extreme method to get the fat off is a childish approach if you ask me. How hard is it to control your eating throughout the day. Do you tell yourself you’re going to eat one cookie and the next thing you know you’ve eaten the whole box and 2 bowls of ice cream? Just take a whole bunch of steroids while you’re at it, why wait when you’re trying to get abs yesterday. I thought tracking macros was a social issue. Instead of politely eating someone’s homemade cupcake and accommodating for it in the macros later, you’re just gonna tell them you can’t eat at all until later tonight, tomorrow, next week? Lol, this is obsessive asf, and good luck with the protein synthesis that you’re sabotaging.

When you have metabolic disease such as fatty liver or or t2d, it's way easier to eat nothing than to eat 1 cookie. I get no satiation from my foods at all. I have constant cravings, especially for sugar or carbs. Fasting for a day(40 hours) is pretty much the only thing that makes the cravings go away. Nobody would fast if going on a diet was easier.
