Hello coach Rory, just want to thank you. You have helped me grow so much as a parent coach. I love to teach my 9 yos and you have made that enjoyable for me and especially my 9 yo boys.

Just what I needed! I am following your instructions from "IMPROVE your youth soccer training sessions" video and going straight from Rondos to Pattern Choreography/Pattern Play was a little bit of a reach. This bridges that gap nicely, especially with the 2v1, 3v2, and 4v3 as incremental steps. It is also flexible to the number of players as you can run two groups for more reps easily. Thanks!

I'm about to use this in a session, so we'll see how I do. One thing I might change will be where the defender is starting out. We never have the defender coming at our CB from midfield... usually at the top of the box. There is urgency when the CB gets the ball. They are almost always under high pressure. I'm going to move the Defender to near the top of the box to more accurately reflect what I'm seeing in my 9v9 games.
@coachbjorn Жыл бұрын
That mostly worked. The field felt a bit too big so that the pressure on the CB wasn't fast enough to mirror the game situation, but I think that was better. Only made it to the 3v2. I really like the idea. Had 2 teams together and it was 21 kids, but we made it work.

Thanks coach Rory. Your 7v7 videos have been fantastic for my very green U10s team. We have been learning to build out from the back and last week we played a well-organised team who put us under pressure but my boys did fantastic thanks to your instruction. The other parents thought I was Pep Guardiola! If you have more videos on mid-field transitions (e.g., breakdown play?) then that would be fantastic! But thanks for your amazing efforts - much appreciated!

Great to hear!! Keep it up. I’ll try to get some more midfield transition stuff out. But in this age group it’s more build out and then attack.

Hi Rory. Do you have any pre-game / pre-training routines that you use? I'm not meaning the warm-up actions, but more of the intangibles to create a positive team environment e.g like high fives in the group huddle, everyone wishing each other a good game, those sort of things.

I’ll have to think on this.

Hi Coach, I'm excited to give the 2v1 a try with my new team tomorrow. I just have one question. I understand not having the CB run up for a give n go but rather stay in position for support. But then we are telling the CB it's ok to dribble and take that space all the way up past the winger if it's available? Does the winger then need to see that and drop back for support? I guess I'm worried they will be confused that the CB shouldn't go up on a give n go but that they CAN go up on a dribble. Thanks so much!!
@CoachRorySoccer5 ай бұрын
They’ll get it. Especially when you go to 3v2. If CB is dribble the winger just needs to move forward with them.

I'm coaching an U7 team in the fall. What age range do you recommend starting to coach building out from the back? Love the channel!
@CoachRorySoccer Жыл бұрын
Depends on what you’ll be playing. I’m used to U7 playing 4v4 without keepers in more of a rec environment. Competitive teams start 7v7 at u8 and above. So maybe a year too early? That being said you could introduce these concepts and see how they do. I don’t think there is ever too early a time to try!
@nictigre03 Жыл бұрын
@@CoachRorySoccer sorry, should've said it'll be rec league 7v7 with goalies so my worry is that building out from the back may be too advanced depending on skill levels. I think I'll try it though at least and see how it goes!

@@CoachRorySoccer Coach, how do you adjust the BOTB ideas to players with poor passing skills (or lack of strength)?
@CoachRorySoccer Жыл бұрын
@@angelobenito-aguilar503 Just have to roll with it. I don't really adjust much. I will say if the group is less skilled etc and I am doing a positional game I will add less defenders. SO instead of a 7v4 build out game I might do 7v2 or something.

What do you do if the DEF wins the ball?

If the players defending win the ball they go to big goal.

Coach Rory, my U13 boys struggle to score goals even though they ALWAYS dominating games but end up playing goalless draws or losing by conceding a goal. They can't/won't shoot/attempt to score no matter how many times i urge them to, the other thing is that their shooting technique is poor and they don't have or put power behind their shots. All this i have drills to improve but nothing

Coach, what does this look like for the 9v9 level? Is it much different if you plan on running a 4-31? You still have that CB & FB back relationship in the build out, is there an additional progression to bring in the #8 & #10?
@CoachRorySoccer10 ай бұрын
Just have to add the line of 2 attacking CMs. And a bigger pitch of course. But it doesn’t really change much.
