One thing I really like in build videos is for a problem to crop up, and then see how the builder goes about solving it. That makes the video relevant no matter what kit is being built and can transfer to broad spectrum of modeling. I will never build this particular kit (though it is a cool subject), but your finding issues, then going on and solving them, makes your videos worthwhile to me.

Thanks for your feedback - I’m always thinking about how I can stimulate fellow modelers to be inspired and build something!

21:57 into your build. The bassard scoops as they are called, actually are supposed to have a slight angle on them believe it or not. They angle inward down, outward up towards the body of the orbital shuttle.I went and asked a friend who worked on the actual film prop. Hope it helps.

Reference the Hasegawa F16 and Tamiya F14 for the cockpit parts and main engine volumes... And only the Trek IV version had the full lighting and different pilots.

Looks like a challenging build. Interesting to see how you solve the problems. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Phil, the deltas are actually correctly printed. Both are printed facing the same direction, but if you look at the arc on the bottom (right side of sheet), you'll see they are opposite.

Correct, there are two different chevron decals.

I do like watching the "garage" kit builds (especially Star Trek). Looking forward to watching your Helios 1701-D build, and picking up some tips and hints for mine when I get round to building it.

Hey Phil.. Look closer.. The "delta" decals shown at 2:55 are not facing the same way. They are just flipped vertically

I picked up an old AMT USS Voyager kit at a swap meet. It had been started, kinda poorly. The big problem is the warpage of the main body, both top and bottom. I tried manipulating the parts to see if they could be brought together by force, which ain't happening... At this point, with the severity of warpage, I'm debating whether to chop it up and kitbash some kind of one-off ship. If I do a hot-soak and try to reshape it, I may be able to salvage it. Classic model problems... I know I won't be lighting it, it has enough going against it...

This kit is clearly made with parts of available military jets kits: all the the rear part is an F14 , the jet intakes are from F16 ( 1/48 or 1/32)etc....

Is it just me? Or are there some elements of the rear of the F-14 Tom Cat aricraft in the design of this space craft? Look at the rear of the engine set up on this and compare it to that of the F-14!

That is a f-14 rear section off of 1/32 scale tamiya kit. You can tell because of the air brake.

It amazes me that resin kits can still have voids and warping in this day and age.

Molds break down really fast and it’s expensive - it’s the age old problem of diminishing returns!

So Star Fleet recycled old fighter jets to build their new age space-fandangos... This kit looks like a wrestling match to get the parts to fit, all good fun - Onwards to part 2

Interesting subject. Did the creators use the bottom part of an F-14 kit with two F-16 intakes?

You gotta really want something obscure and barely in the movie. TimeSlip is a serious outfit and a cool team of creators and craftsmen. My objection to this is the size. There's a ratio of available shelf space to model length to level of detail to presence in the movie to my damn patience that I don't quite get for something that's -- wha-- 14" long? Yipes. If it were around half that size, maybe then, something for me. There's also a cool design aspect which is here. I like me my Star Trek movies as much as the next guy, but my ratio is not satisfied. You're off to a rollicking start, fussing and wrasslin' with every part of those F-16 sets of intakes. Sure, it's a "garage" kit-- I'd like to see that garage, in this case. What I think I did not see was the use of pressure casting-- no doubt because of the size -- which loops back to "too big" for me. Hey, me-? I don't know the economics of resin casting- I only just managed to not lose my shirt when I did mine. (You know-- "children and small animals" not sure where I fit in...) Anyway, that means some of the little stuff gets blasted by the foam. And to the specifics, that was a cool save with that square stock styrene. Thus, I see a very good start. There's a lot of need for a come-along and a crowbar. But you've invested in enough of that UV putty to get the job done. Good stuff, that. Lighting should be fairly direct. I say, give up the "red breathers" for the engines and just leave them in "idle."

Hi Phil, I've got the Eaglemoss model of the tug if you'd like me to send you some ref pics of the underside detail. I think it's the ST6 version ,the one outfitted with the AMT TNG Ent D nacelle caps underneath, but still a good reference.
