From the very first day they described using a jet engine PLUS a racing 427.......I knew right away that was a bad idea. WAY TOO DANGEROUS, especially knowing the fact that absolutely no one has ever tried it before. I was so relieved when they announced they were scrapping the project. We don't wanna see a harsh lesson learned & chiseled on the tomb stone of ole Cleetus. Could you imagine getting an ultra-quick launch with the 427, and then kicking that jet engine in at about 90 mph?!?!? There's no telling WHAT that car would've done. Probably slam into the wall @ 180+ mph, and then keep on going, bouncing back & forth between both walls before he could shut it down. NOT GOOD.

A good friend that I used to work with built an 11 second nova for his first build and the rear windshield flew out on the first pass. At the time the shifter was held down with metal roofing screws (just self tapping 1/4" hex heads). I can't believe all the shady shit that went I to that car but it ran for a whole season.

@@mattb6001 Biggest lesson is that they either need more time/people on each team, or to do simpler builds. Another day or two so they actually could've tested properly before the event instead of discovering all the problems on the day of would've made a much better show.

@@Dan_Neely But what fun is that? They did make changes to be safe enough that nobody got hurt. Doing 330' runs was wise, and made it possible to do a 1/8 mile end to end, and know how not to wad them up or get hurt. Working through it and knowing when to call it good enough for now made it both entertaining and safe. If they had spent a month developing and testing the carts, it would've turned them into a mini top fuel rail with a few golf cart bodies tacked on. They have basically been evolving the same way Leroy did.

01SS_88Notch Lsnation he did not grenade the truck. It was the coolant line blowing off and going into the turbo and it forced the engine to shut off. The anti freeze in the coolant is flammable at high temps. That’s what pappi said. After that day, pappi was able to start the engine back and it ran fine

So I've had these old videos suggested to me. Couldn't help but watch them again. Excellent build show. You should do this again Cleet, maybe a little safer. Give each team a crown Vic and a budget. And they have to do the same sort of thing. Invite a team made up of a few channels from different countries along with some of the local boys. Make an epic build series for us all to enjoy.
