In continuation with our under $10,000 shipping container shop build we complete the final step. In today's video we install the Covermore shelter assembly. This shipping container shelter installation is relatively straight forward. In some parts of the world these are called container domes. There are lots of options available on the market but we are really pleased with the ease of install as well as the quality and thickness of this PVC awning by Covermore container covers. This kit is intended for install on shipping containers. We also purchased the end wall kit to cover our equipment on 3 sides.

PE vs PVC fabric and why we choose PVC for our Container Shelters:
Both (PE) polyethylene and PVC are waterproof, but PVC is more so. Additionally, PVC is much more fire-resistant than polyethylene because the chlorine atoms it releases during a fire inhibit the process of combustion.
Poly vinyl (PVC) is made from the polymerizing of vinyl chloride monomer. Additional stabilizers and plasticizers are added to increase its light and heat resistant properties and increase its elasticity. These properties make PVC suitable for various industrial applications.
PVC fabric is durable and designed to last a long time. PVC fabric is thicker than PE fabric, weighing between 20-28 ounces psf. Compared to PE, PVC fabric has a higher tear strength, making it a popular choice for fabric buildings and container shelters that are exposed to high UV rays, strong winds and other extreme conditions.
Solid White Cover and Why It’s Important:
The solid white cover is very important because the dyed ends (usually green) that you see on some tension fabric buildings is a weak point in the cover. The dyed ends do not have the same ability to withstand UV rays as the undyed white fabric.

Carson, that made a nice area to work or store out of the rain. Easy assembly, economical price. It’ll be interesting to see how it holds up on the 1 year review!

Honestly I don't foresee any issues with it holding up 1 year. The pvc cover is very heavy duty. I will definitely keep the channel updated!

@@ThriftyGarage How is it holding up? Do it take snow loads?
@ThriftyGarage

@@BrotherAlan our snow loads are not very heavy here. The roof has held up great! No issues there. Wish I could say the same for the back wall. The winds really put a load on it and the straps ended up breaking. I probably could have secured it but I could tell it was going to be a constant fight (too much wind). Eventually I want to frame a back wall with either metal or wood. I will probably use the original back wall at a minimum for the upper half circle or possibly the entire wall "sheathing."

@@ThriftyGarage please dont this is what i was concerned about. you are fortunate it was only the back wall that failed. trapping that airflow is not a good idea.

This is a bad idea. The Conex roof is concave with about a 1" rise in the middle. Unless you figure some way to drain the trapped water you created, you will have corrosion problems on half of your shipping container roof. Also you have added weight to the walls which were not designed to take the loads you have placed on them.
