best of all: first approach with 2p shematics was perfectly drawn In the second you decided to abandon the 2 adventure your sketch was hands on. pretty interesting to see your bms cable being faulty sorted if I understand it right. I just have to refit a 5 cell 18650 battery pack for a gardena lawn mower roboter with samsung inr 35E and 3,5Ah but 10,5A only . That has a bms too and I had written down each cables colour and cell position during tear down to get it right ... But the basics are the same except my packaging needs to be a 3 x 2 cell solution, hexagons as a holder to get a battery that will fit into the bay while you're piling it as a 3 x 2 stack. My hight has to be as low as the original.

these sony murata cells will work fine. the original cells can handle 120c or 140c, but that will never be used - the battery connector can't handle that current (if the drone draws that much current, the battery will die in a few seconds, not 20- 30 minutes) your soldering iron doesn't have enough power to solder well such thick wires...

Hi, I'm really pleased that I came across your site, I'm a beginner drone flyer, really loving it. I've built an Echine Tyro 129 but the batteries are really expensive, I've got a bundle of Panasonic 18650AA 2250 mah batteries from a damaged ebike battery. I've already used some to replace the old style batteries in my 12v,18v, and 24v power drills, I've got 16 left. could I use them to fly this 7" drone ? It weighs 400g without a battery. I could build 2 x 6S1P packs or 4 x 4S1P packs. If they are suitable, what would be the best combination? I'm familiar with building 18650 packs, but I get mixed up about watts and M.A.H ( I'm in my 70's). I've subscribed, loads of useful info. on your site, thanks.

Cells put in series do not self equalize,,,thats why we need balance chargers. Cells in parallel self equalize and. The current drops quite fast though and within 3 seconds I'll be well below 10A close to 5A.

Really nice looking outcome. Couple tips: a flux pen can be used to pre-flux surfaces (especially larger ones) to clean the surface and enable the solder to flow easier and quicker. Also on the XT-60 connector besides the flux pen if you plug in the other side of the plug it helps even the heat out so one end of the plastic insulator doesn't overheat and start to melt.

Hi, I wanna ask: I have a Parrot Jumping Night Drone: Drone: 3.7V 2A Max Battery Pack: Li-PO 3.7V 550mAh 2Wh 15C Cont Discharge Battery is dropping. Usually I can play up to 20 mins, now below 5 minutes. I want to diy using 18650 battery. I have AWT 3500mAH 3.7V 35A High Drain and MXJO 3500mAH 3.7V 20A (both are authentics). I use for vaping device. - Can I use my vape battery to drone? I plan to mount only 1 battery, probably using battery slot so I can easily recharge it. I have Nitecore UM2 USB Charger. - If can, do I have to tear down the original battery, take the BMS and put into 18650 battery or I can simply soldering cable at drone connector to the battery without BMS? For safety reason, which is best? - Also, there are 3 connectors on the drone, I think 1 for battery level, how to soldering it so I can see the battery level on the smartphone. - I think with 1 single 18650 battery with 3500mAH, I can get very longer play time. I confuse with 2A Max warning on the drone and 30A or 20A on the battery. Can you help giving me understanding about it? Waiting for your feedback. thanks.

Just to be clear this will only work good if you're drone consumes low power consumption when we're talking about most of your mavic products were talking about amperage draw a higher C rated discharge battery is required which is why they use Lithium Polymer instead of lithium ion if you were to make the same attempt on a regular mavic platform you would find really quickly that you would start running into serious instability in the platform because when it goes to draw that extra energy that it needs for the power boost unfortunately ion does not provide this and you will have what we would call a system brown out. the Drone will go into complete system shutdown during flight and it will fall out of the sky like a rock. So basically you really want to understand how this system work properly before going out and attempting flights on this type of setup because there's another thing that has to be considered in that is wind. These battery builds with ion are great if you're just cruising around but if you were to run into a gust of wind and the Drone wants to continue its course it's going to need power to fight the wind and if it over drawers the capability of the battery then it will Brown out. Good video brother this is the majority of what I do on my channel is showing people how to take proprietary drones and Design hobby grade setups for them so they can use hobby grade batteries instead of proprietary based system
@Quadcopterguide4 жыл бұрын
Correct, the burst power available is less than on a LiPo, as mentioned in the video. That's why I planned this to be a 6s2p pack on the 7" quad to give me 60Amps, It ain't no 200Amps which the drone can pull on full throttle, but the limitation must be known to the pilot at the controls. Most DJI camera drones use LiPo High Voltage cells also, so pairing those with even just regular LiPo wouldn't be safe. I would advise against tinkering with any LiPo pack anyhow.

7:08 mis-spoken: "series" should be "parallel". If in series, no current will flow between the cells because the circuit isn't complete. Adding cells of different voltage in series will just add the voltage of each cell up onto the cells before it. In parallel, however, as soon as you connect the two 6s series batteries together, current will flow to equalise the total voltage of the two 6s batteries and, as I understand it, if the difference in total voltage of each 6s battery is big enough, you could end up with a high current which may spark/ exceed the max charge rate of which ever 6s battery has the lower voltage. So it's important to make sure the total voltage of each of the two 6s batteries is the same before you connect them in parallel 👌

Also, check out the Molicel P42a 4200mah 21700 cells. I built my li-ion battery out of them. Much higher volumetric energy density than 18650 and has a continuous discharge rate of 45A
@Quadcopterguide4 жыл бұрын
Good Morning Daniel, had to do a double take. The cells are wired in series, that is correct. The rapid flow of current occurs when plugging in two packs in parallel, that is correct. I should have said "you want the cells the same voltage to ensure the final pack has similarily charged cells". Your warning about plugging in packs in parallel is 100% correct. The general rule is no cell should have a voltage of over or under 0.1v difference, before plugging in in parallel. This occurs when you plug them onto your parallel charging board etc.

Love this conversation by the way. So glad others are into this kinda stuff. Funny, my spreadsheet I used for planning has these VCT6 cells on it and the Molicel you mention. You're spot on for a planned 6s1p pack the Molicel make sense. My plan from the get go was to do 6s2p and for that the Molicel was just too heavy for me. My calculations were that a 6s2p ( or 2 6s1p just manually wired in parallel) pack of vct6 weighs 624g and the molicel 876g. 6000mAh would be plenty i thing with the vct6. The vct6 packs would provide 104g/1000mAh and the molicel 109.5g/1000mAh. All these calculations were assuming the VCT6 provide 3000mAh. Initially you can get 3130 out of them even. What are you flying with li-ion packs?
@riddles5514 жыл бұрын
@@Quadcopterguide yeah I think your 6s2p set up is perfect for you. I'm running the Molicel's as a 5s1p on a 5" fpv drone. Definitely heavy for a 5" but I'm getting 18 min flight time, just crusing around. Current draw is about 10A while cruising. If I had a 7" I would probably go with your set up, but I think I'd have to experiment with the Molicels 😆 The extra max discharge current could help if needed to do an emergency punch out. What's your current draw while cruising with this set up?
@riddles5514 жыл бұрын
@@Quadcopterguide spot on. I've also heard about the 0.1v per cell in series general rule but only in relation to lipos, which can safely take up to a 5c charge rate. I wonder if the same is true for li-ions, considering their max discharge current is much less than lipos and so perhaps their max charge rate is also much less, which could mean that 0.1v is too high. Would love to know the answer to this!

Building a 6s out of 27000's is a royal PITA. I made some 4s and 6s and the number of solder operations you have to do per battery is 50-100. It's tedious and insane. And it's a mute point now, because I plugged an XT60 in backwards to my 7" fpv quad and blew out it's ESC. So that XT60 connector is a killer just waiting to happen. On all my yellow XT60's I had labeled them with a red/black sharpie +/-... so that would not happen... but guess where that one singel black female XT60 was... you guessed it... on my $500 quad. In under 1second while working on the bench going back and forth between Betaflight and the quad in a hurry, bam spark and that's the end of the ESC music and my $500 quad.
@Quadcopterguide3 жыл бұрын
oh no! Did the black xt 60 get soldered on wrong? I haven't been able to plug in an XT 60 the wrong way, if you managed to get that to happen.. holy cow! :). I hate learning through mistakes like that..

@@Quadcopterguide my guess is spark gap jump... Round male in square female touching and other side is only a hair space between contacts. 20v at 2 amps yeah... kapow... and its game over. Wasnt jamming or anything, I was just in a rush on the bench and my mind wad inside betaflight configurator

@choppergirl Жыл бұрын
@@Halphbaked210 I bought a replacement ESC, and capacitor. It's been sitting 3 years now unfixed. I was too blind to gut the thing all the way apart and do the swap out, even with an inspection microscope. So yeah, pretty much bye bye 500 quad, and then bye bye another 80 replacement ESC that never could get installed. I mean bye bye in a sense, I still have it all collecting dust. But after one flight, I never flew again... nor did I ever want to fly again, that pretty much ruined the hobby entirely for me, game over. I couldn't go back. I didn't understand why, until I had an epiphany one day... a phrase that popped into my mind. Sudden Infant Death syndrome. It's like when your first baby dies, through no fault of your own. The experience is so traumatic, do you ever want to have another baby, or even think about it any more. H377 No.... So yeah, FPV swx....

Great video. Few things, you're not pre-tinning. You're tinning. It's one of those weird things like a "hot water heater". Why would you heat hot water? 🤔 Also, you can buy small tinned straps to connect the cells and keep everything flat. Something to look into. 👍👍👍
@Quadcopterguide4 жыл бұрын
hey fmf thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated! Will keep that in mind. My research showed that the tinned straps handled less amps as the silicone wire, why i went that route. Maybe in the future, then I would want a spotwelder too muhahaha :D

@@Quadcopterguide I think everyone should have ALL the tools. 😆 I'll have to look into the amp rating. I would think that there's more material, thus more ability to carry amperage, in the strips as long as they are the right size. Maybe not tho?

An amazing video . I was really searching for something like this . Though I still have a problem . I have made my own cinewhoop recently . A shendrone geyser. It is a little heavy since it's a 4 inch cinewhoop and the ducts add up the weight. Plus if I am flying with the go pro , the 4s lipo only gives me only 2 minutes of flying time ( without go pro 4 and a half or 5 minutes ) . Will a lion help me get more fly time. I am using 2300kv motors . I am still not confident that a liion will help my drone get off the ground let alone increase the flying time. Is it worth trying ? Becasue lipos suerly aren't worth it .
@Quadcopterguide4 жыл бұрын
Hey Simran, thanks for taking the time to comment and watch, it is much appreciated! It may be difficult I would be worried about the drone pulling too many amps. What is the max amps in your typical flight?
@simrangill72454 жыл бұрын
@@Quadcopterguide I have 40 amps motor so the total consumption is 160 amps theoretically still around 130 - 150 amps would be sufficient. Which is provided by the lipo. Since the li ion cells which I have seen hardly have a rating of 2c . Some can ( like the Lg and samsung ones ) prove 5 to 10 ampa but that too in burst . The quad itself is 442grams without battery and go pro .
@simrangill72454 жыл бұрын
@@Quadcopterguide I am looking at 8 cells connected together for now . The lipos are certainly not worth it . I am just fed up of changing the packs for two minutes of flight time . Since I only require gliding power for a cinewhoop ( I dont need to do crazy throttle consuming freestyle stunts and all )I thought I could go with the li ion alternative using only 40% of the full throttle .But now after just reviewing everything I get it why people build a 6s cinewhoop . I think I might have made a mistake by making it a 4s config. The only alternative which I can think of now are mobile batteries . But good mobile batteries with high c rating cost a fortune .
