Flush mount and recessed LED lighting have different installation methods that can impact the way lighting changes in a room.

The light output from recessed fixtures can also be more intense and concentrated, creating a more dramatic effect.
Overall, the choice between flush mount and recessed LED lighting largely depends on the desired lighting effect and the specific design goals of the space. While flush mount fixtures can provide a more general lighting effect, recessed fixtures are better suited for creating targeted lighting effects or highlighting specific design features.

I like the flush panels like on the left. They light rooms up more eventually with better coverage. Right side is cool for specific more dramatic lighting IMO.

No, you just don’t know how to space your lights, therefore you choosing the option to just bleed light. In that case just put a normal room light and call it a day.

we put just slightly regressed in our house and love it for this reason. We didn't want "spot lights" all over our house.

I can't stand the quality of light that comes out of the wafer style lights. I've installed in two rooms with high quality wafers but nothing beats the quality of a bulb inside of recessed lighting with ribbed white recessed trim.

But flush will give a more even light throughout recessed will give more concentrated areas of light. Id prefer less light but cleaner and smoother

Flush mount = glare bomb. Same with a fancy old school Edison filament bulb in a decorative fixture with a glass canopy. If you’re interested google “lighting design” it’s a complicated subject. But if done correctly makes a room look awesome. Layer with light is the main concept. Also google TADA

That is a very wrong concept. You are talking about direction and shape. One is flooded, and the other one is more direction that in my opinion is not about the output but the softness. A flush light make s softer light that is more pleasant

A flush light also becomes a glare eyesore. Careful management of flush mounts is key. As in, don't go 1000 or 1200 lumens. 650 or so. Even then the glare is nearly intolerable.

I bought into the anti late property of the recessed downlights, yes, less glare, but guess what, you dont see them because they cover far less areas. The beam angle is much smaller, my wife told me it felt more like an interrogation light lol

Think of a mix for these. Spot on outside of great room but the wide in the middle area. Keep them on different switches so you can control each zone separately. wide would be good for kitchen and bathroom as well as basement general areas.

but isnt this really a case a matching the light you want to the fixture you use? for example, for general lighting in a bedroom, you'd want the flush mount because it diffuses the light throughout the room. if you wanted to highlight a feature in the room, like a piece of art, or a chair, however, you'd use the recess, because it casts it light in a sharper, but more limited area.

Completely different optics has nothing to do with the light being recessed higher into the ceiling. It’s all about the LED optics and beam angle. You will get the result you want when choosing the proper fixture.

Seems like you know a lot about lighting. I need help. I just bought a house with high ceiling (20 feet) living room . what kind of bulbs should I put in the ceiling? I dont like the current lighting. I see sooooo many different options (spot lights, recess lights, indoor flood lights) and its super confusing :(

Recessed and flushed is just the type of installation. There are flushed that has a certain degree of light “throw” such as spot or wide. I forgot the term but it’s the angle or degree of throw that you should look at.

@@sashaghovanlou8175 they "update" the models every 2-3 years. So the trim and color temp for their "updated" version of your light, might be different. You could ask for a few dozen extras when it's built for replacement, but almost no-one does.

This is a great example of how wafer recess light wash out. they work good for something like a basement or a room that will have more sources of layers lights like a table light , floor lights but I prefer the can housing lights as they tend to be more warmer and are great for high task rooms like a kitchens.

The reduced glare is the most impressive thing. They could be tricking you there because of a narrow beam spread bulb.

Lots of comments here of people that don't understand. A flush light in LED will throw the light directly into your eyeballs from all angles. IT is harsh and unpleasant. You do not need full light from every angle in your house. The deep recessed ones throw plenty of light

@@dylansmith697 The problem is surface brightness. Small 4, 5, or 6 inch units have around 20-30 lumens per square inch. Old school fluorescent light boxes were around 5 to 8 generally. This creates bright spots that are irritating. Solution is to regress the recess, or reduce the surface brightness by increasing size or reducing output or both.

I think it the parts itself. The flush mount dont have reflector behind the bulbs. While the regressed has reflector around the light bulb like flashlight. Idk just maybe.

The regressed light is being focused and has a smaller footprint. The flush mount has a wider footprint and is less focused. IMO it makes more sense to have flush mount lights for most interior lighting applications. They are also often easier to install than many recessed lights.

Flush mount is Harsha my eyes when I walk around the house. It’s fine when I’m looking down but when I’m looking straight ahead, I get the nasty glare from the flesh mount. It’s not pleasant at all.

Track lights is the answer. They can lit up wide areas, you can move the lamp to whichever side you want.

I wanna install new pot lights and I have a fairly good experience doing so in a new build, however, I am now trying to upgrade an existing room and not sure what would be the best way to run the wires. The room has two light fixtures in the ceiling obviously with own junction box for each. Each light fixture is controlled by a separate switch in that room while one of them is also controlled by another switch neat the stairs. I am also installing a dimmer switch with the pot lights. What's the best way to do it? Shall I connect all pot lights to the junction box controlled by the 3-way switch and completely cancel the other light switch/junction box in the room or split the pot lights in half, one half connected to one junction box and the other half to the other? Would that be weird or unprofessional to have to light up half of that room with one switch and the other half with another? Are pot lights supposed to light up all together in a given room or is it ok to split them between two switches. Moreover, if I did that then the dimmer switch can only control half of the lights and not all. Shall I install another dimmer switch for the other half of the pot lights and have each half function independently? I feel like it's gonna be unprofessional and maybe also annoying while trying to match the dim level on each switch. What do home renovators do in this case, do they cancel one light switch and it's junction box and just connect all pot lights to the existing 3-way switch and install the dimmer switch there? Huge problem. You don’t realize the stress/strain it puts on your eyes, unless u visit a proper light studio. Why I never install flush mounts, only recessed with black colored inserts

I prefer recessed for any ceilings 9ft and under, too much glare from flush mounts, very annoying.
