I still can't get over the cooling system alongside the block around obviously to the pump at the front,but the cooling of these engines are really the secret cold air more air higher compression, higher compression more power,with prelofesional head work to get it in and out in massive amounts leads to more power too , unfortunately tensioner are a problem in many engines starts getting very complicated,if I had it my way and no budget I'd put a camless engine using actuators to run valve timing and train one over each valve compressing it as fast as you want,so you have less moving parts less heat in the Moter , priceless for 🐴 Power

I think some times people so easily try to compare RB's and JZ's as a Nissan vs Toyota thing, to some how show that toyota make better engines but i think people forget these are 2 completely different generation engines. RB's are essentially the 2nd generation of Japanese turbo engines after the super early late 70's attempts, a true 80's Turbo engine developed in the early 80's and released in 1985. The JZ's didn't come along until 5 years later after killing off their 2nd gen turbo engines with the M motors. The fact that the RB made it til the mid-2000's whilst the 7M was killed in at the end of the 80's says a lot about how impressive the RB really was. The 80's was peak development, and 5 years in the 80's is a huge gap for technology back then.

I have to pull up the statement of the RB 6cyl being the best sounding engine of all time. It's sure got a nice note when allowed to flow, but it's not the best sounding engine. I've owned 3 RB26 and RB28 GTRs since 02-, present, plus several RB30 NA and turbo VL Commodores from 96-08. Heard straight pipe to stock. Had all kinds of custom exhausts built by myself, a pipe welder and fabricator. They'd often change after a few months in search of a better exhaust note or power. I still own a mid 2010s built, haltech controlled ~800whp RB28 1992 R32. I still love it 8yrs after the new engine, transmission and running gear upgrades. I even love the sound, but it has nothing on some of the V8, V10, V12s and random engines I've owned, driven or just heard over the years. There's thousands of tough, great sounding 2.5-3.4L+ RB's, but there's several better sounding engines IMO. Someone please cast a twin bank RB30/26 based 6.4L V12. Now that might be the best sounding engine. If not the displacement alone would be heavenly!

Herman is right. It's an oil GALLERY. NOT a Galley. A Galley is a ships kitchen. A Gallery is a narrow passage. Oil Gallery people!!!
@extcreat5 ай бұрын
Actually it's not, it has been Galley forever, look at any literature older than about 1990 & you will see it always be referred to as Galley, any automotive brand that has been around for a long time always says Galley. Just as the Galley feeds the ship the oil Galley feed the engine, I'm with Jay on this.
@notsponsored1035 ай бұрын
@extcreat I look at the English dictionary to get my words and expressions correct. Any editor using Galley to describe an oil passage is wrong, probably ignorant, but still wrong. There are no ships kitchens in any of the engines I've disassembled but I'll keep looking.
@extcreat5 ай бұрын
Haha ok, maybe you should look up the meaning of metaphor in your dictionary then
@notsponsored1035 ай бұрын
@extcreat hmm, maybe I'll find some metaphorical ships kitchen's in my engines after that? There might be lots of Penis's (males) and Vaginas' (females), too? If the engine was really meticulously built, I should even find some 'T's and 'i's in there somewhere.
@C-M-E5 ай бұрын
In the US, most people associate a gallery with a small space for viewing artistic works. Depending on your level of mechanical appreciation, I could make an exception for Gallery, but Galley is the automotive term most engineers will abide by (at least in the English-speaking disciplines, as that term is used specifically) to mean "a passageway; for transport".
