Start to finish construction of our tent deck. We will be putting a 12x12 canvas tent on here next week that will be our home during the summer as we construct our off-grid cabin and try to move in before winter.

Get a screen house so you can get away from the bugs once it warms. Also its time to think about bears. Both Black bears and Grizzly bears will be looking for easy lunch. Dont let that be you! Get a air horn to scare them away. Also Bear spray and most important a 12 gauge pump shotgun with some slugs and 00 Buck shot. Both of you need to be very familiar with the pump 12 gauge. Buy some cheap bird shot for practice. Keep the bear protection handy at all times! Good luck with the build. I am looking forward to following your build!

Great advice. We have spent a lot of time backpacking in black and grizzly country. 10mm with proper ammo and bear spray are always with us but we keep them off camera. We also just ordered some 147 grain hard cast flat nose for our 9mm (some local bear guides use it so we thought we'd try it since we already have a 9mm). I'm a good shooter, Eleinne is excellent. We are looking at 12 gauges and ready to get one. Air horn also a great idea, we've read about how affective they are. Thank you

@@AlaskanFreedom Im glad you are experienced with your 10mm and 9mm. Good to have them in shoulder holster on your person. The 12 gauge has a ton of knock down and killing power. Get your 12 gauge chambered in 3".That will be a real kick ass gun! I wouldnt worry about what viewers think about your self defence tools. Thats just how it is in Alaska!!
@AlaskanFreedom

@@dcranch4820 yeah i was more concerned about KZbin regulations honestly. I'm learning about shot guns. Should i be getting a cylinder choke for slugs?
@dcranch4820
@dcranch4820 5 ай бұрын
@@AlaskanFreedom Shotguns may come with two barrels. A slug barrel and a longer barrel that has screw in chokes for bird hunting. If its just going to be for self defence the shorter slug barrel would be best. You can also just buy one that has rifling. These are super accurate when paired with the right slugs. Ive had a 870 Remington chambered in 3" for 30 plus years. They are great guns but Mossberg also makes a great shotgun. I watch hunting videos on KZbin that actually show the kill shots. Also there are several other Alaska off grid living that show men and women carrying side arms during there daily activities. I would think you would be fine as your use is for self defence! Have fun shopping!!!

Someday maybe I'll teach you how to use that level of mine that so mysteriously disappeared, though I'm not sure what you're trying to level in a 5" span. 🤪 Great videos you two! Keep them coming!

You’re wasting no time. Hopefully the gravel gets delivered soon. We made the same mistake, forgetting to figure in the 2x4’s when we cut the length for our middle support wall. Won’t make that mistake again. That was a lot of extra work 😂

Love the videos. What about painting the OSB with exterior paint? That would protect it plus you wouldn’t have to worry about the plastic messing up.

We did think about that. But the paint was much more expensive. And since this is a temporary platform coming down later this year we decided to go cheap.

Nice work. What drone do you recommend?
@AlaskanFreedom
@AlaskanFreedom 5 ай бұрын
I'm no expert on drones. But I use a DJI, currently the mini 4 pro, and love it. Based on the regulations that the government is putting on Chinese-made drones though I'd highly suggest looking at something non-Chinese-made. The only problem is you pay A LOT more for less quality, based on my research. Also, make sure you're a part 107 FAA pilot if you plan to use drone work for anything other than recreational. Posting on KZbin is only recreational if you don't monetize the channel. Drone U on KZbin is a great channel for detailed advice.

I see you used those hurricane brackets to tie down the floor joists. Is there anything needed to tie down the posts to the cement pads or the ground. Or will it be fine the way it is?
@AlaskanFreedom
@AlaskanFreedom 5 ай бұрын
Everything is tied together to the post hardware. From there the hardware just rests inside the blocks. They sit in about 6 inches and then can be adjusted up or down by adjusting the nut. I've seen a lot of cabins up here built this way, and we will be using a similar but stronger method on our first cabin also.

Are you facing you tent towards the what looks like a pond?
@AlaskanFreedom
@AlaskanFreedom 5 ай бұрын
No, the pond will be off to the side, but there are large windows on the side of the tent facing that way. The way the land slopes and where we want to access the tent with the least amount of steps kind of dictated the way we are doing it. Hopefully that will make more sense next week when we show the tent up.
