My father in law worked with the original Mustang design team. He was responcible for the rear end design. It went through several design changes before the 64 1/2 was approved. He was later picked to work on the Fiero and the Delorean. He told me many horror stories concerning the Fiero and was a nightmare it was. The Delorean would be the last car he helped design. He retired and opened a Sears Catalog store in Northern Mi.

I'd love to see the breakdown of all the parts. I've got a 66 and I'm doing a V8 conversion on it and would love it to be a fastback or convertible, but I hear that it's quite a bit of work. Isn't there some kind of jigs that you could make since you do so many of the same cars over and over? Also, do cars lose points in a show for the welds not being the correct spot welding as from the factory? You say you measure an original car, I can't believe they were all the same or even close.. We toured the plant in the 60's, things were aligned with a 2x4 and a hammer! They spent minutes while you spend hours. Your work has to be 10 times better than factory even if you are having a bad day!
@petersonrestorations
@petersonrestorations 4 жыл бұрын
I've had cars judged by AACA and they did not take off points for originality. I can make some jigs but this way workes really well for me.

I really do love your content but as as engineer that builds factory's that build modern cars I think you are selling yourself short.please concentrate on what you do best. Taking a piece of scrap and making it it real with true fabrication skills which you have is not to be glossed over.Putting a piece of lego is not(and I I understand you have the knowledge to make it happen)is an art and has taken a long time to learn. Your appreciation for these cars are second to none. Please show your skills which I'm very impressed by to the max and not just the end product what pays for your hobby

How does that work for a title? Basically it's a brand new car, but not. Do you use a few body parts from a wreck. It was my understanding a certain percentage has to be original in order to qualify as a restoration. My daughter works for Hagerty Insurance and I do know that's how they insure them as classic. I think its 30% but do not quote me on that. My friend took his sisters fastback and restored 60% before giving up. He is more of a construction wood type person, not an automobile restorer. He ended up selling the car back to her with 100% of every part to finish the job. No one realizes the amount of hardware that goes into a car, even that one. Literally thousands of parts.

@rupe53
@rupe53 4 жыл бұрын
RC Hobbyist Extreme … You are right about the small "hardware" adding up to more than the sum of the larger parts. I have done a few restoration projects and you never realize what you are missing in the way of those odd trinkets. If you have a spare "parts car" you start to notice how often you go "shopping" on the junker out in the driveway, even if it's just for reference on how something fits. Doing a 64 Corvair Van at the moment.
