Much clever thinking on that. Once, I made my own liner drill. To prove I could 🤦‍♀️. You have the surface grinder to cut the pilot. The hard part was grinding the cutting flutes.

Tip. Next time just turn a 60deg mild steel center in the 3jaw chuck instead if removing your chuck. Everytime you need to remove it just re-turn the center with a skim pass....

Hey Brother, I've been a gunsmith for over 50 years now. Just want to know, have yo EVER considered using a little oil on your equipment?? I have never seen so much rust on lathe chucks, and centers. A little oil and a Scotch Brite or steel wool will go a long way. Folks who see this will question the care you take with their firearms. Just a bit of advice from an old gunsmith and machinist.

Thanks for the advice. The next customer who calls to see if their firearm is complete, I'll tell them it will be done as soon as I polish my lathe accessories. In all seriousness I didn't always have the luxury of keeping all my equipment in an environmentally controlled garage what you are seeing is stains that are not easily removed by steel wool. My biggest problem now is wiping the oil and chips off to prepare it for the next Job. Thanks for watching and providing gunsmithing services to people for over 50 years. It's a dying profession.

@@Turnbullcustomguns Brother you don't have to "polish" your lathe accessories but simple maintenance is an ongoing process. I managed to run / own a shop for 45 years with enough work to allow me a nice retirement, and my tooling and equipment was always cared for and maintained. How can you trust the runout of a live center that has .005 of rust on it? I understand being busy but if your equipment is necessary in generating your income, it would behoove you to care for it. It's a reflection of your attitude.
