I was wearing my recording head-set but the program picked up the laptop mic by default. The laptop mic will be checked and disabled for every video from now on :P Silly computers...

Would love to see you do another green pointer build with one of the new crazy powerful green diodes. It’s crazy to think how cheap things have become. I was pricing out the parts to build a green pointer of at least one watt, and it’s barely over $100! And that’s if I buy the DTR module instead of doing stuff myself like normal. Scary to think that in a few more years will probably be seeing $25 green lasers coming from China that are well over 1 watt. Honestly that would be freaking awesome. Survival of the fittest I say! But I’m sure the government will clamp down on that once kids and cops start going blind everywhere because of pranksters. Also heard rumblings in the flashlight modern community of regulations possibly in the works for flashlights. Because they are now far surpassing the capability to blind people or cause permanent damage instantly. Wouldn’t believe some of the flashlights I’ve got my hands on and built recently. Really cheap stuff I’m talking under $50 to have the capability to absolutely destroy someone’s vision from a pretty great distance! Some of them can easily burn black plastic bags a few feet away. Scary stuff honestly. But a shit load of fun for DIY guys like us!

I recommend using sharp wire cutters to slowly, in a circular motion, chip away at the joint and then it'll just pop off. Delicate procedure but doesn't risk wire damage.

in most cases the ball lens pulls off actually. I just didn't know that at the time. I also try to avoid using something with a loaded pressure just in case the material gives way unexpectedly, I have crushed a few cans that way in the past :(

Is it possible to shine laser on DMD chip and make laser projector that way, without diffraction patterns?
@Zenodilodon4 жыл бұрын
This is a problem I have been trying to overcome here in the shop for a while, I have tried many DMDs and they all diffract, I believe it's due to the pits between the DMD mirrors. The only way I can see it working with a clean laser beam is if the mirrors where much larger. If you ever come across a DMD that doesn't shimmer rainbows it would be the one to use, however I don't think one exists.

@@Zenodilodon What if laser light will be not collimated, passed thru a lightpipe/lighttunnel? I heard that when you place transparent container inside ligtpipe (square mirror tube), filled with very diluted milk, then photons will be scattered a little bit. This patent with milk, especially helps with the "grainyness" of the laser light. But then, there is the question, why use laser instead of powerfull LED? What with modern DLP laser projectors? What do You think?
@Zenodilodon4 жыл бұрын
@@synterr in laser projectors they do one of 2 things. Larger laser projectors will diffuse the laser light through a frosted glass plate, in the manor of the Casio slim they used the native blue laser light, a wheel that has phosphors that light up green when struck with blue laser light, and a red LED, these help cut down the properties of the native laser light. A thin piece of glass with an etched or sanded surface may help your application needs. Other laser projectors like the pocket/pico projectors use a MEMs micro mirror to steer the beam much like a CRT's electron beam assembly does line by line. Those are some options you can consider looking into, but in most cases LED will do a fair job as well.

That look like Techhood's handwriting. 0:30 removing that balllens ain't as easy as some indicates, it will vary a lot from diode to the next if its simply down to screw into a wise and pull.

if a module has one unspecified current rating it would be the lowest voltage rating so if I have a buck converter it's the output and if I have a boost converter it's the input.

Yeah that tends to be the way it goes with the drivers. I wish there where more options for 3A+ single cell current regulated boosts.

I have an idea: yellow lasers work similarly to green dpss lasers (crystals and stuff), so I was wondering, can you make a 589nm yellow laser with an IR diode and some crystals?
@Zenodilodon5 жыл бұрын
Yellow lasers can be made a few ways, the most common set up is to have an 808nm pump laser that fluoresces a ND:YVO4 crystal just like in a green laser. Instead of being tuned to emit just 1064nm they are also tuned to emit around 1340-1350nm ( depending on the yellow desired ). Both of these larger IR wavelengths are sent into a second harmonic generation crystal which is often KTP just like in a green laser. However it needs to resonate both waves to create the right conditions/length to as to cause frequency summation between the 2 waves. If the resonator isn't tuned to do this you will either get 532nm green from the 1064nm or red 670nm from the 1340nm. These tight tolerances in the SGH resonator are why they are so expensive and difficult.

Dude, maybe you can help me: I'm searching for green laser diodes like you're holding in the video but I can't find any cheap ones. I mean, a complete preapared and built laser pen costs around 3$ on ebay, and the diode itself only costs on ebay around 3.5$. I'm sure that somewhere someone sells it like 100 diodes for 7$, but I really cant find any. Thanks a lot!
@Zenodilodon5 жыл бұрын
The 1 watt green laser diodes are quite pricey in contrast to many laser diodes. DTR's laser shop may have complete laser modules but otherwise you probably will not have much luck finding completed 1 watt green laser pointer for cheap. They usually are around $200 starting price. You can search on ebay for a laser diode itself NUGM03/ NDG7475.

DUDE....there is no laser driver for "blue lasers"....its only marketing to sell drivers for "specific colours"...a driver puts out current and voltage, it doesnt care about wavelenghs
@Zenodilodon4 жыл бұрын
DUDE.... If some one who doesn't know about laser searches for drivers and doesn't know anything about DPPS vs direct diode they will end up in a pickle. This is because there is a common linear driver that isn't a boost mode, therefore would not work for running the Green laser diode do to lack of voltage. This is why I mentioned " Blue ". I thought it would help people avoid the LM358/D2882 driver that is often used to run the pump in a DPSS 532nm. Sadly because there is so much association in marketing with colors it's something to consider as this is what the average person is going to both try for key words and see by common association.
