I hope you enjoyed this video! Let me know if you're interested in videos about Phase, Polyrhythms, and Polymeters :)

Great to see your VCV brilliance applied to Bitwig's grid. I'm always up for new videos on phase (& poly meters/rhythms): it's an under-explored area, and I still get confused.

I love your teaching style Mushroom Man, and your tunes are a pleasure. A more advanced series would be incredible

FYI - there has been a change to the Bitwig step sequencer modulator since this video. You have to change the Trigger Mode from Transport to Free Running if you want polymeter by changing the step count. Transport mode now links to the global transport for Play/Stop status, tempo, and beat position. For instance if you set your step count to 7 steps, on the repeat, the 1st step will simply play for 2 counts and then proceed. If you set your step count to 10 steps, the last two steps will not execute and it will simply repeat to the first step after it gets to step 8. If you change the Trigger Mode to Free Running, the sequencer will play at the set rate independent of the transport and incoming notes.

Oh, wow, that's good to know! I will test this out, thanks!

@@TheBitwigMycelium Hmmm, now that I've played with this a bit more, there's more I figured out. I was initially confused about why Transport was retriggering differently than I thought, and it was because I was just letting the loop play through as I was toggling. If you re-start the loop I believe it works as you showed in this video. This is also an important distinction from Free Running mode because it lets your loop play in a repeatable and deterministic way, rather than pick up where ever the modulator left off in free running mode every time you restart the loop (giving a different sequence with each playback)

Yeah, please mooooore about the GRID, I am very close to switch to this new Fungi-Environment ;-)

I completely understand why you used Steps outside of Grid, but it's also super easy to create polymeters inside. Just hook up Triggers module to Clock Divide module, and use its output as trigger for Reset module. Now you have both value of triggers per cycle in Triggers module and a divider value in Clock Divide module to play with. Anyway, great video, thank you for sharing!

Yeah, but then there's a need to change too many things when wanting to change the length of a few sequencers. It opens up more ways of manipulating time, though. Cheers!

Very cool. I’m curious as to why you didn’t use a Steps Modulator for the pitch? DFAM doesn’t really follow pitch so any arbitrary value would suffice. Thanks again for further demystification of The Grid! I’ll do a ‘Build-Along’ later and try this out for myself. Cheers! By the way, I love the shroom fairy lights 🍄

Thanks! You can definitely use one for pitch, but I like having my sequences quantized, so I opted for just using the clips for this.

Can you tell me please what MIDI controller are you using at the end of the video?? It looks very nice!

Hi! That's the Midilar Midi controller. I'm not so sure if they're still being made...
