Building a better motorbike? Is it doable in vanilla Space Engineers?

Building a Space Engineers vanilla motorbike - one that's much better than the one I built in Survival Impossible or at least that was the goal.

SE despises having a friction less wheel at the back. I did it with a build intended to be "the cheapest fighter" and it is... a reliant robin.

Steering angle needs to be reduced. As the wheel turn the high angle throws off the balance. It matters with forward mounted wheels on your trike as your turning circle needs to be bigger not to flip and at high speeds with any other vehicle. I have one recommendation. The O2 tank as it is lighter than the generator. Consider that as a replacement. But put the battery over the hydrogen engine and place the engine upside down. It has a rounded hit box so less chance to loss it on a drop if your using blast blocks. Good ideas all around that give me ideas. Name Omicron Hopper. Thank you.

Your trike idea with the third wheel at the back that kept wanting to spin was because that wheel had no friction, it does that for the same reason a handbrake turn works, the wheels with less friction will always want to overtake the others especially under braking. You'd need something to cause some drag at the back to keep it orientated correctly because currently there's nothing to stop the left or right wheel going faster than the other. 😋

The skid-wheel in the rear does not work because of the forces applying to the front and back wheels while steering. I guess that's comparable with airplanes: In the past the planes had a wheel at the back and 2 in the front, bevause of this they rotated pretty quickly while braking. That's why it is the other way around (one wheel front, 2 back) in modern planes. That's way more stable. So i've learned it during my Job-Training as an airplane (powerplant) mechanic

I was on an expedition in my rover early game, and I ended up crashing and tearing it to bits, but instead of giving up and starting over, I turned my rover into a motorbike, it was pretty jury-rigged, but it worked and I was able to get to my friends crashed ship halfway across the world.

They need an under mounting suspension. Or Track Wheels like snowmobiles, or tanks. That way you can use the frictionless wheel on the front, and the tracks on the back. As for the under mounting wheel. It works just like the regular suspension only it mounts directly under a block ,and the tire is fixed so it rolls, but is right under the mounting point. OH, and on the trike with the skid wheel at back.. Turn the steering Off.

Put a wheel in the center under (about three or four blocks down) the oxygen generator. If You do that you maybe be able to make one wheel version like the twin stick shooter (the balance may be right).

Hey, one thing I noticed on your first iteration of the trike (with the 2 front and one rear wheel) you had steering on the skid wheel still on. With the small amount of friction may have been causing some of the flipping?

Fortune cat mascot for SE but it's a bike with waving wheel. Splitsie hawk extreme bike. Cause the wheels are designed to be used in 4 wheel shape. Why not put 5 wheel back 3 wheel front if you want different height?

Speaking of parachutes and running away from enemies, ever heard of the Japanese 'horo'? Sort of a balloon shaped cloak typically made of silk, it is very effective at deflecting arrows when fleeing on horseback. Saw it first in TW: Shogun 2, but historically used and very effective. Could be very useful for a fleeing man in a bright red motor\trike\wtf\cycle.

Redback for the name of the bike? Think it might work with the red back spider colour scheme i.e. mostly black with a red stripe. However, to me the bike looks more like a splayed out bullfrog.

just had a thought, on another Space Engineers youtuber JackRPG he showcased a vehicle which used a rocker rotor suspension what about a variation of that, instead of having 1 wheel each end of the suspension arch, how about 1 3x3 at one end of each arm and 1 tiny wheel with zero friction.... that way you could still use the rotor but might be more stable providing you turn the speed down... also on that design the creator had a small wheel as a buffer to prevent the suspension from snapping up too much kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4PGe4CEaMxla68 think this was the one i'm referring to

I didn’t think about this at the time of this stream, but perhaps better late than never. With the builds using rotor arms, do you think you could have made a torsion arm using a rotor (turned off) with a 1x1 suspension riding on the arm. Someone in the Discord posted their land ship that rode on that Tye of suspension a few months ago.

Hmmm, I think that would be possible, would probably work nicely on smooth surfaces too - not sure how easily such a thing would get stuck if it got rough though

i just had to try if it works with adding a large grid 5x5 wheel on a small grid 3x3 suspension and it works and looks absolutely bonkers

Drive Tests: custom made wheels are not really a thing they behave like supsension wheels and absorb impact damage like them, BUT the hitbox from suspension wheel resmbles more of a circle and behave differen in contact with voxel than the block wheel which has a cylinder as hitbox (in summery custom wheels look nice but make the whole thing vibrate like crazy while driving) also the big 5x5 wheels on small 5x5 suspension works fine but the acceleration and deceleration should be assisted with thrusters! They are way too heavy for the small suspension and cause very slow acceleration and deceleration edit: ONE additional thing the rotorhead on the suspension could be used for various decorative reasons because you have steering override and offset and it wont move with handbrake on

Trikes are notoriously unstable and even the modern one the center of gravity is set very low to minimize it. Also your test was off as you had the rear wheels much further back than you have the rear skid wheel
