This is an awesome vid, just what im looking for. Got some questions tho. Wondering how everything has worked these two years? Things still growing? How have you kept the snake's digging from stressing and killing the plants? Did the isopods do well in an arid setting?

I agree, this just might very well be the BEST Plains Hognose enclosure I've ever seen. Believe me, I've been looking but for the most part all I see them in is clear plastic storage containers with nothing but a water bowl, paper towel or white shavings. Doesn't look good. I'd love to see more of them like this. Especially with these species and Royal Pythons. It helps educate people in seeing the snake's natural behaviors and inspire's them to look passed a snake's monetary value.

It looks super nice Hunter! Your hognose will love it. Because it is a more arid substrate does that eliminate the need for a drainage layer? Just curious. Thanks for the great videos!
@HunterHouck2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Tricia! To answer your question, this substrate typically doesn’t require a drainage layer. Great question!

You should always crack/squish the bottom of plants. So their roots can break free. Awesome looking enclosure though!!

The first succulent is a Haworthia zebrina, the second isn't a succulent, it's a Bromeliad, the third is another type of Haworthia and the last one is a type of Aloe ☺️ the elephant bush is Jade, not that you asked 😂
@jackiedoesntcare6 ай бұрын
I am curious why you left the original soil on the plants? I always clean mine off and use the reptile soil because the ones from the store have perlite in it, which is toxic. Were they purchased already in reptile safe soil? I think this is important to note for beginners.
@ipanema7532 жыл бұрын
Hey Hunter! Great video, as always. I like the 'calmingness' (is this a word? Not native english speaker here :D) of your videos! As for your question regarding the succulents, the first one is a Haworthia, most likely fasciata or zebrina, the third one also a Haworthia, maybe limifolia? But the middle one, no idea :D The forth should be another type of aloe :) I hope your Hoggie loves her beautiful enclosure 😍

Is a plain different than eastern or western hog nose and what’s the difference between them and a tricolor hog nose I want to get a tricolor but idk how to set up the enclosure
@HunterHouck2 жыл бұрын
Plains hognoses used to be called plains hognoses, but now plains is the correct term. The eastern is a different species. The tricolor hognose is in a completely separate genus.
@risingsunautomotive23462 жыл бұрын
So a plains is a western? And do you think you could make a video going over the difference there isnt any on KZbin
@SierraRomeoPapa2 жыл бұрын
@@risingsunautomotive2346 quite a few other prominent reptile KZbinrs have commented on it lately just no one has made a specific video. There has been a name change for the westerns to the Plain’s Hognose Snake. This encompasses all the snakes that once fell into the “western” category. Still the main four groups of hognoses in North America are the plains, eastern, tricolor, and Mexican varieties which I think used to be included under western but are no longer considered plains.
@HunterHouck2 жыл бұрын
Tricolor hognose are from South America, but the other species you mentioned are correct.
