Yep, our weather has been crazy. Detroit still has a couple sections of 94 closed from flooding and traffic lights are out all over. Prepping for power outages is a good idea. 👍

Love your preps I was just thinking waching this video that with the battery lanturn that instead of stocking up on batteries I'd buy rechargeable batteries. You for sure fire up the generators to recharge them. And if you can afford it maby buy a cordless dewalt or milwaukee kit that has flashlights and sawzalls in them. Last power outage the lights and sawzall came in handy for cutting firewood. Anyway thanks for sharing and God bless.

My charging kit has a couple of battery chargers and can be plugged into the generator with a single cord. Now I'm upgrading and have four solar panels that will charge that station. Everything's moving so once we get situated I'll get that solar backup set up. Then we'll be able to use the generator to keep the batteries charged on days the sun can't.

I do have a Dewalt drill set with lights but I love the Sawzall tip. That's something I've been wanting but hadn't considered it's use for a grid down sinario. Thanks, great advice.

Thanks. I've added a few things to it since the video. Now I'm working toward a little solar power. :)

You need to figure out how to backfeed your house with a generator transfer switch. Dual fuel generator are nice as propane last for ever and it’s safer to store. Amazon makes great rechargeable batteries for the kids

Thank Eric. I agree. I have natural gas in my home so I plan to add a propane/natural gas kit to give me all three options. I need some expensive wiring upgrades on my home before I can add a transfer switch. An electrician said those old wires with no ground are too dangerous right now. It has to be done eventually anyway so that's the next step. Yep, rechargeable are the way to go. I have several, including my edc light, and they are worth the extra expense. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

For people who have breathing problems. What kind of heat and you use?
@NextStepSurvival

I live in Michigan, and use have a portable propane (Big Buddy) heater and a kerosine heater for emergency heat. I know propane can cause minor humidity issues, and any indoor heater using fuel other than electric will have some level of exhaust. I'm not aware of a decent solution for someone with a severe breathing issue that can't tolerate that.

If the power goes down. You can’t get fuel. How do you stock up enough fuel?
@NextStepSurvival
@NextStepSurvival 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Janette, I actually have a video on this subject, but I have 60 gallons of gas in constant rotation. That fuel will operate my generator for most power outages. For the remote chance of an indefinite outage, that gas generator would eventually become useless until fuel and electricity flowed again, as would everyone else's. In the event of a dire SHTF scenario, the idea here is that the generator would give us ample time to safely thaw and preserve (mostly can) the meat in our three freezers. That's my long-term mindset anyway. Again, that fuel will cover almost any normal power outage, up to a month at four hours a day to keep the refrigerators and freezers going. Ideally, we'll eventually have a whole-house solar setup backed up by a whole-house generator.

When someone says “surefire and ultra fire Chinese lights are the same” they have no idea what they are talking about at all

Agree. It's just ignorance. Trust me, he would know if he really had a Surefire. It stings when you buy, but good luck with those anen you have to rely on them.
