Was there any clearance between the lifter tie bars and the top of the lifter bores
@razoreyes45k
@razoreyes45k 2 жыл бұрын
Didn't watch the entire video, but had to commend you on one thing that only the better engine shops do. Good job on measuring clearance. Yes, it is a Race Engine and it should be Blueprinted. However, many Mom & Pop shops don't see the importance of using a Dial Bore Gage even on a Race Engine!! Absolute mind boggling. They are content on using Plastigage. If I see that method performed by a so called "reputable shop" on a performance or Race Engine, I turn around and never return.

You never know which way the thrust bearing is off, so i always put a small flat metal plate up against both ends of the crank one at a time and thump the plate to drive the crank forward, then backward, that way i know the thrust bearing is centered, Hope this helps.

They got oil down an intake port when they poured all that oil into the lifter galley.
@stevenbelue5496
@stevenbelue5496 Жыл бұрын
@@danmyers9372If down an intake port then it should exit out the exhaust. If it makes it past the rings it should end up in the sump but if that much is making it past the rings (hopefully they just hadn't seated yet) then ring gap, piston to cylinder wall clearance or something along those lines isn't right.

OR it could simply need some baffles in the valve covers. Pretty much ANY engine WILL drip some oil out of the valve cover breathers with NO PCV system OR vacuum pump. There WILL be some crankcase pressure, and it HAS to go somewhere.

Do those replacement timing belts come with a schedule on them? I don't know how many engines were destroyed because people didn't know when a timing belt was until it went boom. It happened in my family in 1994. It was the end of mom's 1985 Nissan Maxima. Are replacement belt parts easily obtained? Many timing belt engines were destroyed if the replacement parts weren't good enough.

Nice build but one question, why only 11.5:1 for the compression? Too much for cheap 87 pump but not high enough to take advantage of either race gas or E-85. At least 12.5:1 or more. E-85 is cheaper, runs cooler, and more consistent too. I'd say 13.5:1 would have been perfect!
@davelowets
@davelowets 10 күн бұрын
11.5 is fine for E-85. An N/A engine doesn't really benefit from E-85 anyway. It's MUCH better for boost. 13.5 with stock main caps is too much anyway.
@conservativecrusader80
@conservativecrusader80 9 күн бұрын
@davelowets just curious why you would say that. Back in 2002 i was in college and our Motorsports Club built a factory sbc gen 1 block with stock 4 bolt mains, a stock stroke(3.48") steel crank 355(.030) with Bullet solid lifter cam, Edelbrock E-Street 200cc heads, Comp roller rockers, Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake, MSD ignition, Holley HP 750dp, 13.5 compression, JE pistons, Dyers forged rods, and ran it on Turbo Blue race fuel and with a Precision Industries 4200rpm converter, a Scott Hoch built TH400 with brake, and 4.86 gears in a Moser 9" and 29x9 M/T slicks we ran low, low 11's. And we raced that thing for years with 13.5 compression.

A timing belt run on an aluminum cam gear bathed in oil? That just don’t seem right to me, I would be afraid the belt would get lubed up with oil and be so slick it would slip and jump teeth.
