Forged Chevy steel crank (non-stroker), true roller valvetrain (Crane, Melling, and Howards parts), Brodix Track-1 heads, Offenhauser individual runner intake w/ twin 390 double pumpers and non-progressive linkage (essentially 8 one-barrels), 10.25:1 CR, est. 511 HP, pump gas, no turbo, no blower, no nitrous. They don't mention that a high-volume Melling oil pump requires a longer bolt. I damaged my rear main saddle using the shorter bolt. Steel aftermarket saddles had to be line bored to fit. Couldn't find a used saddle - had to get another block and take the saddle off it. Now I have a spare block with a steel rear main saddle.

Thats like Kardashians feeling it necessary to explain what eyeliner was to their audience. Plus, on top of all that, their projects are all sponsored with unlimited budgets.

fit the ring in the cylinder, measure the gap with feeler gauges, remove the ring, grind the ring a bit on an end gap grinder, reinstall and re-measure. repeat until you get the correct gap. then install the ring on the piston. pre-gapped or zero-gap rings are other possible options. My current build is a 30 over 350 w/ 10.25:1 CR rated at an estimated 511 HP on pump gas, and it uses pre-gapped Sealed Power rings as I recall.

@@GreatLakesLogger in all fairness you should always be balancing the ring pack to and then include them in the counter weight number. Yes Robert you can buy pre balanced assemblies. A hypertectic piston ain't worth a penny. Forged is king and there is no compromise unless it an average driven car that cast pistons would work with. Don't waist your build time and money on hypertectic pistons. Time always tells, they won't take abuse. I've seen racing forged Pistons go through a full season of hard racing then rebuilt either do to spin rod bearing or refresh. Hypertectic pistons won't hold up in south eastern usa weather maybe?, idk. If you're paying extra because cast may be a risk then buy forged. Hypertectic will explode and damage rods, possible block/cylinder damage. They work great in controlled environments

Are Aluminum Heads already Ported and Polished? Or could they use more? Also what's my best option? Let a Machine Shop build a motor for me, or buy a Turn Key Crate Engine?

Most aluminum heads are not ported or polished out of the box, but you can get some really good ones these days from texas speed, or I think motion raceworks sells that kind of stuff too. Your better off building it yourself unless you want to wait about 6 months for the machine work. Which can go upwards of 2000 dollars just to get it bored decked and have the cam bearings replaced.

hey guys what would that engine build cost today? thanks much appreciated!
I'm surprised they didn't use gapless piston rings. The leakage rate is 0-1% on those.
