Let us know your best tips for building a budget home gym!

My best tip is to make sure that you will actually use what you are buying. Nothing is more expensive than having to sell it years later after using it only once.

Great video Gluck! I spent ~$13k on all new equipment then helped a buddy score on FB (Rogue Monster Lite w/ attachments, Ohio bar, AB-2 and HG bumpers) for $1300. I was both jealous and proud! Secondhand is the play if you are patient enough. One other comment, TITAN has jacked up their prices so much on certain pieces that their sale prices still suck! So buyers beware.

Titan has definitely jumped in price over the years especially vs the insane prices (they seem it now anyway) of the past. Patience definitely pays off but it can be tough.

We are moving into a new house next week and I will have what could have been built as a basement bedroom as a spare room with a bare concrete floor. So compactness and efficiency is the main priority with only about a 12X12 space to work with. I'm going to start with a half inch rubber floor and a Titan X3 flat foot and go from there.
@GlucksGym2 жыл бұрын
That's good amount of space to work with. Should be fun to build.

Man I grabbed that Titan economy bar when I sold off some of my equipment from the pervious version of my home gym. I needed something to hold me over while building the current version. Grabbed it on one of their sales for like 70ish-75 bucks and it's still better than pretty much any sub $200 bar I've ever used. Actually kept it and still have it now even though it's basically never used. If I had a 500+lb squat I probably wouldn't want to use that bar to test it's breaking point, but like you said it truly has no reason to be that good at that price. I like the thicker grip too, think it's 30 or 31mm.
@fs39942 жыл бұрын
It's a 30 mm. Had one for awhile now. If you take bar apart and oil up well ( There will be rust inside) it's as good a bar as any I've used. I would absolutely trust it with 500 lbs.

Good video! Yes, you have an extensive video library of items that add value to a home gym. You didn't mention the gymnastic rings in this video. Do you still use them? Also, I agree about the stall mats on the floor. I only had 2 mats from FB's Functional Fitness Garage Sale. I cut them to make a "+" sign on the floor with the center completely filling the floor space inside my rack and the two smaller bits on the outside of the rack. That way I can deadlift in the rack (room is small). They work well as a "platform" but I'd like to buy more to fill the rest of the floor space. I just have commercial carpet tiles on the concrete floor. Mats won't make it squishy, but it'd make it a little easier on the bones.
@GlucksGym2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I actually use them all the time but didn't want to repeat a lot that was already in a few others videos. Those things are great and still underrepresented!

Home Gym total Cost: 500. I bought a cap half rack. Got a good deal on it from Walmart for 20 bucks. I already had a set of standard weights, and spent 150 bucks for 6 25lb cast iron plates on OfferUp, and 4 more from Walmart for total cost of a 100. The last 230 came from some dip extensions, resistance bands, standard Olympic size barbell, which I got free, because the mailman damaged and misplaced it 3 times. J hooks, spotters, eyebolts, cable and pulley, a long with a Pro Gear 1300 adjustable bench, aerobic platforms and a mini stepper. The one thing I wish I paid close attention too was the rack. 20 buck is a great deal for something I saw going for 100-120 on Amazon. However, the holes in the rack are 1inch which made finding attachments hard and some even expensive. I bought the eyebolt 3/4 steel to add resistance band hooks to my rack. It turned out to be a great investment.

Tough to build a home gym for a reasonable cost today. Before the pandemic you could find good used equipment cheap on craigslist. Now even the secondhand stuff costs an arm and a leg. Used plates now cost $1 or even $2 per pound now when they used to sell for 50 cents or less. Ouch!

My approach is to go with a more budget-friendly option, but I also only plan on making additions, not upgrades. There is something to be said for just getting a foot in the door, but I subscribe more to the buy once, cry once mentality. So that means that my "budget" home gym is gonna cost me about $4k for rack, bench, bars, weights, and flooring. But don't you worry, I'll be using your affiliate links for my purchases.

Got a bit of a technical question. Do you know how the affiliate links work? I feel bad that I didn't know about your affiliate link before I got my PR-4000, but I want to use it for my upcoming AB-4100 (in purple cause it burns my eyes and no pain, no gain, right?) but I noticed that I get your affiliate code on the home page URL, but once I click on anything moving away from that, the extra code goes away. I want to make sure that any purchases I make moving forward are using your affiliate links as I'm grateful for your insight, and I don't want to mess it up. As far as you know, does it re-apply your affiliate code at checkout?
@GlucksGym2 жыл бұрын
It's supposed to work on whatever you purchase during that session after the intial click. So you can click directly or just use the general link to their site and find for what you want from there. Don't worry about it I get people reading out to me all the time saying they forgot and apologizing and even some trying to email and call the company to fix it (for the record I don't think that last one works but the thought is very nice)

I prefer them for other reasons vs just the plates hitting the ground. When I need to kneel, lie down, or really anything where I touch the ground they're not as cold and rough. They can smooth out the surface depending what your floor is. I still prefer them because it's another layer of shock absorption that isn't traveling through that expensive equipment (and to you). This comment isn’t so much for the channel producer as if it is for other viewers. I have another take on flooring. It’s a huge part of the aesthetics of your gym. I dislike the stall mats with duct tape on every seam. I purchased 848 square feet of 1/2” rubber tiles for $2816. I like the looks and performance of them. Stall mats or tiles depends upon budget or preference, but I personally think people downplay the look of their flooring, when it’s a major component of the look. It’s at least as important as the walls, etc.

So if you like stall mats and duct tape…great But don’t choose it because “who cares it’s just the floor…”
