Nice and clean! A C-47 is definitely on my list. Best regards...

Thanks for checking it out Dan. This is a pretty decent kit overall if you're planning to do a 1/72 model, and with your skills I'm sure it would turn out excellent.

Great work right there, that C-47 looks amazing and I'm glad your uncle was also happy with the gift. I don't usually follow plane builds but you kept me hooked watching you build this, so well done for the video too. Thanks for the mention, I'm glad I inspired you with the double sided tape for the base. Neat work indeed, well done.
@scaleffect3 күн бұрын
Once again Karl you are far too kind, I appreciate it pal. Your tape method worked perfectly and made the process super simple. Not having to worry about glue drying times and making a mess was great. I can't wait to try some bases for my car models with your method next.

At least your came better out then mine. I build this kit in the Buffalo Air Colors,shiny aluminium with green from the Discovery TV series. The Artic Pilots. And i broke the landing gear,so i needed to change it in a flying pane. Your uncle jumped very near from where i was born,and every year there is still jumping to co-memorade the Operation Garden Market. And they still use the C47,s for that. Great noise from those engines when they are getting closer to the jumping site. Very nice of you to build that plane for your uncle.

Contrary to the previous rude comment by Donald, I have just discovered your channel, thoroughly enjoyed watching your build, even the mistakes which we all make, I have subscribed looking forward to watching more content. Great finish on the Dakota, on of my favourite aircraft!

I built this kit into a D-Day loading up diorama. I enjoyed it, but agree the landing gear was a pain. Nice job. This is a great gift for your father. (I originally got into modeling a few years ago to re-create the planes my uncle flew in the war and show them to my mom...his sister)

Thanks for checking it out. I thought about opening the doors and trying to do a Market-Garden load up style of scene as well, but that's a bit outside my skillset at this point. Maybe some time in the future though.

The Leading Edges area that you painted Black, are called "De-Ice" Boots. They are Inflated by pumping Engine Bleed Air to break up any Ice that may form on the Wings.

You can mix a drop of mr finishing surfacer 1500 black to the ca glue. It's frustrating when it's normally transparent when dry and hard to see if the seam needs more sanding. When the ca is darker than the plastic makes it easier to see.
@scaleffect2 күн бұрын
That's a great tip, thank you for sharing! I will have to try that next time because yes, trying to see if my sanding job is adequate is rather challenging.

Great job. You earned my sub with the "carpet cam." BTW, there wasn't usually an anti-glare panel on aircraft in this scheme, I''m not so sure the subject aircraft had one despite Airfix's instructions, and even if so, it certainly isn't conspicuous that it is missing.
@windsorspitfire5 күн бұрын
I have to say though, something bugs me about those engraved panel lines all over this plane. I almost think the old rivet festooned kit from the 60s might look more DC-3 like.
@scaleffect5 күн бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed that bit of humor (although I was a bit panicked in the moment) because it happens to every modeler at some point. Right when the part pinged out of my tweezers I thought "well, here's a fun opportunity to film the hunt for the part." Although to be fair, I figured the actual 10min it took me to find it would have been a bit much to endure for the video lol. As for the panel lines, Airfix's "style" on their 1/72 kits seem to all be this way; a bit overemphasized. It does make for some fun weathering opportunities though which I most recently took advantage of on an Airfix Bf 109.

If I remember right the thing on the front of the wing The big black thing is called a de icer boot. So it works by expanding then braking the ice

Thank you, appreciate the insight. Always something new to learn and it's great when I can get expert input like this!

That is correct. It is an Ice boot and used as you said.

The antenna on sides of the fuselage are for instrument landing.

Maybe that's why I stick to model cars. Not as fiddly as military stuff.
@scaleffect5 күн бұрын
Cars give me their fiddles too lol, but yeah this landing gear was something else. In 1/48 it might not have been too bad, but in 1/72 it was tough. Airfix might want to revisit their engineering on something like this next time.
