@@Talasbuan My idea is that you should tell the plot of the video in Swedish, but just add English subtitles when you compose the videos before uploading them. In the very beginning of the video - write in the middle of the screen something like " English subtitles added to this video" so that people turn on the subtitles. That should save you from remembering a lot of english words, which you forgot or don't know or not familiar with how to pronounce it.. :)

I've been a city girl for the entire of my life. (I'm 56). The beginning of the video instantly pulled me back to a memory of visiting my grandfather's farmhouse when I was little. Your thoughts and feelings of the trees, forests, and our place in their environments resonates with me. I worked in Yellowstone National Park in the USA and had those same feelings 58 years ago and they're still with me. I applaud you and your fellow Woods Folk (lol) and your struggle with the big "forestry" companies and their concept of clear cutting. We have the same struggles in the West of the United States (and probably the East coast as well). They sicken me with their protestations of the 'good' that their plans have in spite of the actual results of erosion, soil quality depletion, and eye sores.
@joannadavis6716

Not to mention how clear cutting reduces the oxygen in our air which we need to breath. The south east is eaten up with greed and clear cutting old growth trees as we watch our air get more and more stagnant.

A great scandal is that forests are cut down in the east coast states in the USA and the wood is transported as pellets over the Atlantic ocean to Europe to be sold as environmental friendly and climate neutral, to consumers with zero understanding. It is such a hoax. But very profitable for the big companies. What is needed is better isolation of buildings, better circular economy, recycling, reusing, less transport over all and more simple living. And of course healthy diverse forests very sparsely used for timber, one selected tree at the time.

I love your tenacity and the way you just get on and do what has to be done. I live in Australia. I've never been in snow or touched it and so I long to watch anything with snow in it. I'm impressed with all the different classes you take to increase your knowledge of what you do. I mean to even learn a new language. That in itself is a challenge. I enjoy your calm natures and often replay your videos in the background while I'm doing other things. It's very relaxing. You mentioned that you were concerned that people might become bored with seeing the same thing. Mathias, I found a you tube channel called Buckin' Billy Ray Smith. Like yourself, he is not a logger but he removes trees that are too close to homes and could fall on the house due to wind, ice and or snow. He lives in Canada and he has years of knowledge on how to fall trees that may be leaning the opposite of where you need it to fall. You might check in to his channel. He is wonderfully entertaining as well and no foul language which I find very refreshing. I'm learning so much from watching not only your channel but many others as well. Have a fabulous day Mathias and Tova and Ivar also. I am of Swedish descent through my fathers side of the family. His grandparents on both sides (mom & dad) came from Sweden. I don't have any idea where. I only know that two different families went from Sweden to the East Coast of the United States and made their new life in Minnesota where my dad and his sister were born then years later my fathers family moved to the West Coast and settled in California. I also know through stories from my dad that one set of his grandparents had a farm in Minnesota and dad spent a lot of time there with his grandparents. Unfortunately, I am the only one of 4 children who has ever had any interest in doing any type of farming. I raised goats, sheep, pigs, a few beef cattle, many chickens and many rabbits as well as gardening. I wasn't fond of butchering days but I knew everything that went into whichever animal we butchered whether it be a beef animal or a rabbit. The taste and texture spoiled me.

Thank you for these restful glimpses into another way of life. I started following you about a year ago, when the pandemic seemed to have closed a lot of doors for me. Things have gotten a lot better, and I am so grateful for the part you played in helping me cultivate a healthier, more optimistic outlook and the courage to chase my dream to live on the edge of the Arctic Circle. Glad Påsk!

I think it's a good idea to ask viewers to subscribe each time you post a video. It doesn't bother anyone and is common practice. I went to the GFM page and was so pleased to see you surpassed your goal so quickly. I'm so happy for you all and I hope you will find some relief in having met this need so fast. I never heard of moonwood before so that was interesting.Take care of yourself.

Awwwwwe, Dear Tova &Matthias, you're doing such a fantastic job together. Working hard, cause Winter is coming, and you gotta prepare for that. Can you send us some snow ❄, here in Holland 🇳🇱 🙏. What a stupid people not to subscribe on your wonderful channel. Ivar has grown, that cute Sweetheart, and hands full, lol. I was thinking that he's going to be faster and faster, witch brought back this memory.When I was very little, and could walk, my Mom gave me a harnas to wear, with a line on it, so I could never run away from her sight. Thank you for another video of your lives. I Love the sounds of nature, and hearing the rooster is so beautiful,and cozy. Watch your back Matthias, hang out, and slowly stretch, train your muscles, and use a sauna to warm those muscles. Alrigh bedtime 🌙 😴 for me. Love &Light and a Hug:Anne. 🖐👍❤🙏❤❤❤❤❤😘👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I thoroughly enjoy watching every video and also can't believe that people don't hit that 'subscribe button'. Whilst watching this particular video I couldn't help but sit and imagine the Viking people standing under trees and them contemplating if the 'moon-wood' they'd selected was going to become a fine and beautiful long boat...destined for exploration, trading and new lands.... when I visit York, in the U.K. and see the legacy of history they left and understand where they originally came from ....well, it boggles my mind! I know all our ancestors were a hardier bunch than we are but life in the North in winter ...😳 Not for me. I'd be killed by the mosquitoes; daunted by the massive amount of snow and extreme winter conditions and can only take my hat off to you guys and living 'life off grid' !

It totally baffles me how so many people who enjoy your lovely videos do not subscribe!!! After just watching my first of your videos I immediately hit the button so I would never miss a new one. I do understand the people who hit the down dislike button are people who need to be pitied. They clearly are bitter, jealous and resentful people, the exact opposite of the two of you. I am amazed at your level-headed view of life and you are such great examples for people over the world to follow. and I look forward to your next video! My DNA test shows I am 30.3% Scandinavian mostly coming from an island off Sweden but also Finnish. These videos really help me to understand what my ancestors' lives there must have been like. You have all my thanks and admiration for choosing this lifestyle. All my best to the three of you and I look forward to your next video!

Hi Mathias, I guess you're such a detail oriented person! Does any one notice that the kitty is the big artistic detail in this episode?!? I notice the kitty in the beginning and in the end part of the video. It is so sweet seeing the kitty was so comfortable sitting on your lap while Ivar was on his mom's lap. Aww, they are both like sweetheart siblings, absolutely cute! Love and friendship from Indonesia, meow! 😻🙏💝

We live in Oregon Coast Range in the Pacific Northwest where 99% of the old growth has been clearcut and it has had such devastating effects on the environment (and economy) here. Genuinely one of the reasons we're moving to a different part of the country--driving by massive clearcuts every time we leave the house is just soul crushing. Thanks for fighting the good fight! There is a way to manage and harvest timber without complete destruction and monocultures (which usually require heavy pesticide application too).

So glad your back is better Matias. There's nothing worse than a bad back as it restricts you from doing so much. Was nice that you feel for the forest and respect the trees around you, taking care of what to cut, and keep the natural beauty of the area around you intact 💚. My pleasure to help with the windows and have made a donation on your page. Looks like you both need a good night's sleep with Ivar playing up but I'm sure it will pass. I remember the vlog when you got that book from an auction Tova bid on. 😄

There is some confusing and contradictory information on this practice. In Timothy Harley's book Moon Lore, from 1885, he writes this: "If this belief have disciples in London, it is not by any means confined to that city. In Sweden great influence is ascribed to the moon, not only in regulating the weather, but as affecting all the affairs of man's daily life. The lower orders, and many of the better sort, will not fell a tree for agricultural purposes in the wane of that orb, lest it should shrink and decay; nor will the housewife then slaughter for her family, lest the meat should shrivel and melt away in the pot. " This seems to contradict the notion that the absence of moisture in wood is a good thing. This is no specialty of mine, and I cannot answer to it. I do, however, follow the reasoning that, as it regulates tidal patterns, the moon 's relation to earth is directly responsible for the flow of the water cycle, i.e. condensation and evaporation. If these processes are lessened during certain cycles of the moon, and if moisture content affects the durability or utility of wood, it stands to reason that the cycle of the moon would be a logical indicator for when to fell a tree. It occurs to me that your butchering for dried meats may benefit from such consideration, as well. What was once called magic is now referred to as science - but does that make it any less magical? Knowing the how of a thing still leaves us the question of a why. You can read Moon Lore in its entirety on the Project Gutenberg's page. It is a mixture of fairy tale and fact, and the section I referred to is by far the most interesting. It is the chapter entitled Lunar Influences, and if I were a farmer it would be of some interest, but I am not a farmer, and it was of great interest. www.gutenberg.org/files/27228/27228-h/27228-h.htm

I’m sorry your back was hurt Matthias, but so happy you’re feeling better. I’ve never heard of Moon Wood, but I agree, if cutting the wood during a waning moon might have special properties, I’d do it too. Many times the “old ways” seem to be rooted in some truths. I admire you and Tova’s spirit and joy in all you do. All the best, ~Karyn 🌼
