Yep, first off all you don’t need a Air vent in it because there are a flu liner, and it’s not a open 🔥 fire Second, you could of Case all that in concrete which a sheet off ply with the lintels too, because now it’s going to hard for the next person to patch it up underneath etc.!
@bardy9240
@bardy9240 2 жыл бұрын
@@craighughescraig6096 you still need a vent for log burners mate. Any house built after 2008 and any house all together for anything over 5kw.

Don't need the vent if it's a logburner, looks to high as well but if that's the spec, plastic vents draw more air than terracotta but just put a bigger one in. Never bother with all them lintols and flue starters always shutter and concrete, looking good though 👍

Hi, yes built a fair few private houses. Obviously that is a decorative fire surround so face bricks can be used. The architect should earn his money and specify structural size of the fireplace and what materials that are to be used to be compatible with what ever appliance is used. A class 1 fireplace as flue liners that are 225mm diameter internally and I feel are the best as it gives the client options regarding different appliances. I would have built the stack differently but that's me. I'm a firm believer that a brickie works hard enough and architects need to put as much specification as they can on the plans, not just the measurements but specify the materials. So Charlie and gang well done. Construction industry is a constant learning curve

Surprised you need a line to do a 3 brick run!! Blimey 2 blokes who go to the gym cant pick that up, heavy weekend? Is the word your looking for Vermiculite? I used to buil;d fireplaces back in the 80's and this is not a dig at you, but the Architect, when I first saw you had built it out of celcon blocks I did wonder how they would stand up to the heat! (unless it was being rendered with fireproof render) I gave a sigh of relief when you took them out but was surprised when you put bricks in there instead of fire reflective blocks (which heat up and reflect the heat back into the room) but the Icing on the cake was to install a PLASTIC vent into a area of FIRE!!!!! should have been a clay tray & brick, but that was years ago before 'modern thermal' practises!!!

Nice work as usual, I do have a couple of questions though. If it's a functional chimney; how comes the architects used a plastic vent brick? & did they use refractory mortar? .. I know your job is just to lay them, but just curious.

the blocks should be built as close to the liner as poss apart from being a stronger job you would save on time and money on the vermiculite first time iv seen a plastic vent and there should be a lintel over the vent as the bricks are resting on a plastic vent.. terracotta would be more suitable for a chimney which is non combustible and you only need a vent in the room not the chimney do you really need a line to run 3 bricks
