I seen that little motor against the wall, it would be a good motor if the 2 of you just wanted go float around out there. That way you wouldn't have to move the other one back and forth. Guys keep having fun.

Pouring the resin onto the surface and then rolling it in seems a lot better than using the tray. Less waste and one less item to clean. Adapting on the run, way to go.

We should always use breathing protection man! I am building a boat too and really got sick breathing the stuff from the sander. Now I use a filter mask when every I am doing a big sanding job.
@TexasFilipinoАй бұрын
in this video I had a strong wind to my back and even though the camera showed alot on my side the air was clear because of the strong wind. Later when the winds slow down I put a mask on as you saw. Joel refused a mask and just wears a shirt tied around his face. They are the stubborn ones.

I used to pour a thick coat of fiberglas resin and catalyst and some wax on a flat piece of wood and stick it out in the sun and it would come out smooth. The wax was to help with sanding between coats and i don't think it helped with smoothness. I think the UV weakens the catalyst and helps it get smooth but it came out smooth and hard. Test it.
@TexasFilipinoАй бұрын
You want wax in your last coat if your using laminating resin so it stays tacky between the coats and the last coat waxed or peel ply so the surface cures hard.

Maybe get a hold of the guy that weld your stainless steel railings and you can make a stainless steel cap for your keel or slipper whatever you wanna call it even if it’s only part of the front

"1 liter jerry can pump bottles" are available on Lazada for 37 peso each. I keep 2 with with resin and 1 with hardener filled. I use 2 funnels, one for each kept in a plastic bag to refill them. Many times I have small batches to to do little jobs. I do wood strip boats. Now I am doing a Gary Dierking design; the T2 an 18 footer Polynesian outrigger with a lateen sail plan. It is the best way to pass the time here in Philippines.

I did a simular project , on the last coat of polyester resin , I added blue pigment and it never needed painting
@TexasFilipinoАй бұрын
I have the blue pigment here. I was going to use it as a undercoat color. I will be spraying it with boat poly paint from www.yachtpaints.com also I brought from the states.
@kuzinit2374Ай бұрын
Keep in mind , if you try to do it with white , it will come out pinkish so choose a different color besides white
@jimanonymous113Ай бұрын
Would there be advantage to putting hdpe on the keel ? I think there may be a problem with the water wicking between the keel wood and plastic, leaving the keel always damp.

What, you can't figure out that they shape the skeg with a chainsaw. If you want a quick way to mix your epoxy, make a short triangle or Z tool from a piece of tie wire & use your drill to mix it up. Mix up some sawdust with the resin for filler in the larger gaps. Just sayin
@jerrymarshall2728Ай бұрын
Loving the restoration and upgrades to the bangka, James. I was wondering if laying a strip of aluminum along the 'slipper', skeg, keel... whatever term you like... would help with durability, rubbing the waterproof coating off and deteriorating the wood? As I've said so many times, I'm not well versed in boats, but the thought came into my mostly empty head, while watching. 😵💫🤪 Keep up the great work, and I hope Kristine isn't hitting y'all like it is here in central Luzon? 🌬🌧🌴🇵🇭
@TexasFilipinoАй бұрын
Yes your thinking is right. The local bangka term for that is a slipper in this country. They wear it out and replace. I am thinking to put something durable like you said. I have 3M keel guard here I bought a while back. I was thinking conveyor belt strip. Bonding and fastening it.

Is fiber glass as expensive in the Philippines as it is in the US. I wanted to build a boat onetime but after pricing fiberglass I changed my mind.
@TexasFilipinoАй бұрын
This is just small project and I had some of the materials already and did not need to buy much so I am unable to give a real comparison on prices. Overall it seems reasonable as the product is easily coming in from China
@gilcri1949Ай бұрын
You ever use total boat products much superior than what you’re using and plus that epoxy you’re using if it’s more than two years old or even one years old it’s not even that good. Try using total product. You have everything you need measuring cup rollers anything you want you’ll like it
@TexasFilipinoАй бұрын
This is the Philippines. Total boat is not available here. You use what you can get. Most is generic repackage product form China. Remember this is not the WEST or some islands near the west like in the Caribbean. That old can was in my garage back in Texas and I threw it in a balikbayan box and shipped it amongst other stuff. Choice was toss it in Texas or use it in PI. I really appreciate your comment but this is not America and most things I have and you see is not the norm here. I bring it or have it shipped in. Total Boat cannot be shipped here from the west via online. MAYBE FOR MASSIVE MONEY! China products is it.
