Today we'll finally be starting work on the new roof for the Cyberyata!
This is part 1 of a mini series I will be doing where I go over making a fiberglass fastback from scratch. This first video covers the basic form shaping using expanding foam and then smoothing it all out to make a finished plug / buck.
If you are interested in the widebody kit or any other of the custom pieces you see on this car, please check out my website where I sell my products worldwide.

People in the garage made fun of me for using foam for the base shape. They've never touched fiberglass in their lives 😒. Also amazing work, you make it look easy. Get yourself a ventilation fan

I find a lot of people that are unfamiliar with how these parts are made think the foam stays on the car permanently. Hopefully videos like this should help clear some of that up. When I'm not filming I have the fan going but it's so loud that you cant hear anything with it on. When I set up my new workshop hopefully later next year I'll be designing a proper HVAC system. Thanks for looking out for me bro, appreciate it!

This Miata is turning out awesome. I really like the shape of the fastback you’re making. I would recommend picking up a 20” box fan with the controls on top. Then you can pick up 20x20x1 furnace filters and tape them to the back of the fan with duck tape and they’ll help with getting some of the dust out of the air. And cheap to replace the filters.

I think having a hose to a shop vac or a bag on that sander might help with the dust. It looks like its just dumping the dust into the air.

I’m into motorcycles a little more than cars but I’ll be following this build!! One of the great motorcycle builders Indian Larry would say he believed that custom hand built bikes were one of the highest forms of art because it involved many mediums like sculpting, painting, leatherwork, etc.. all in one art piece. That’s obviously true with custom car builds like this as well.

A little tip if i may, instead of sanding it down with an orbital, use a slightly over damp sponge. You’ll be able to smooth it out pretty good, plus the slurry created fills your pin holes to save a little bit more work on your filler stage.
@TofuAutoWorks
@TofuAutoWorks 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. This was my first time working with jointing compound rather than auto body filler so you can see how I'm used to working. What I didn't show in the video was the extra 5 passes of filling and sanding to get it perfectly flat and in those later stages I did start to figure out that if I wet all my tools then I can smooth it out a bit better.
