Looks and sounds amazing man! I have the daphne blue original 60s jag. It is my second jag and I love it! So much! I swapped out my jag bridge for a mustang bridge and it fixed every single problem I had! It’s probably my favourite guitar to play in my collection and I would consider myself at tele guy too! Excellent work man!

Nice build Landon. I have a Squire Jaguar and modded with the same 65 Fender pickups you have. It’s black with a mirror pick guard with chrome tele control knobs. I swapped the bridge out with a Fender Mustang which solved the bridge issues and back string down pressure is fine, no rattling or slipping. Your right about the controls, confusing at first be very simple after. Beautiful guitar, make it a keeper!

I have never played one....I think it's my "option anxiety" I avoid amps, guitars and pedals that have complicated controls generally...I think they look cool but also that I'd spend time switching stuff around rather than plug and play....probably would enjoy it but let me know..I' leaning towards the one P90 Fender Noventa tele....as simple as it gets...sort of really thinking I'd enjoy one of those.will be fun to watch you build a Jag though....I like the sounds Johnny Marr got from his when he played oh Neil Finn's solo albums

What’s difficult about partscasters is that had you gone with mod shop, you would’ve gotten a case (around $200 bought separately). That makes your build and the mod shop the same amount of money. But with the mod shop, it’s a fender made guitar and would hold almost all of its value while this partscaster would sell for around $500-$600. I have a partscaster and have enjoyed it, but besides gaining experience they make no financial sense. And I know, you can say “I’ll never sell it”, but my experience is that eventually, you might want to move stuff along for something else. In short, it’s great to make something and tinker. It’s great to design something specific to you. But if you ever want to move the guitar on and get your money back, you’ll have to sell the neck, body, and electronics separately.

In truth, value is a negotiation and if you look at the guitars of most professional guitarists then you will find that most have been modded or else are the best parts drawn from several guitars. The desirability of those guitars owing to their history and innate qualities makes them valuable. I could go on but life is too short. If you want to build a guitar that is personal to you then this is a great way to do it without having to develop complex luthier skills.
@ZacharyWThomas
@ZacharyWThomas 2 жыл бұрын
Well you also have to take into account that the mod shop version he had to “compromise” on damn near every piece of the build. The neck was different (and he said specifically the block inlays are what drew him to the guitar), the control scheme was vastly different (and IMO inferior if you actually want a classic jag sound), and you get basically no control over the hardware options. In my opinion, if you are gonna spend $2k on a guitar, get exactly what you want instead of compromising on a bunch of stuff.
@alexradsby

The annoying thing with modshop is that they don't make proper traditional offets. But I totally agree with your thinking for sure.

Awesome project! Having rebuilt and rewired my Jag from the ground up, you definitely could have handled wiring up the whole thing. It’s a great learning experience, and leads you to experiment with all those switches and pots. The only thing I don’t love about your finished product here is the ToM style bridge. That trem really needs the rocking bridge to get its signature sound. But still, it’s an amazing guitar that I bet you’ll find yourself playing more and more often. And at least it doesn’t have the 3-way blade switch, which wipes out the strangle switch altogether (another essential Jag component).

Very nice build! The Jaguar is such a unique guitar. Visually and sonically, it’s one of Fender’s most interesting products. But they never seem to put together a Jaguar at the production level that has all of the desired features for Jag fans. This partscaster is one of my fav looking ones though. And it has that quintessential Jaguar tone. It’ll slot in nicely in your collection. Thanks for doing this video!

I have had an '09 sunburst Jagmaster II since 2010, and it became my favourite guitar almost immediately. (The other electric guitars I owned are an '87 Charvel Model 4, an '03 Epi Gothic Les Paul, and a Jackson Performer PS-1). Although it is a bit of an oddball, I still like it. I recently got a '21 black Squier CV 70's Jaguar. I like it so far. I dunno if it'll overtake the Jagmaster as my favourite or not. I would have preferred a sunburst Jaguar, but decided to go with black to match my son's Squier FSR Mini Jazzmaster. The other reason was that I had to order online, and I don't like how a lot of the Squier bursts end up looking (including my Jagmaster) because of the mismatched chunks of wood. So, if I were building from scratch, I'd want a two-piece (or really well-matched three/four-piece) body done in a burst. I also have a sonic blue Squier CV 60's Jazzmaster arriving tomorrow (wanted olympic white, but the savings was substantial enough to buy a looper pedal, which I've always wanted, so that was the route I took). I've never built a guitar before, and while it seems fun, I'm a bit of a purist. I don't even want to upgrade parts on my Squiers that I know aren't amazing. I don't even know why. It's a mental block, I guess. That said, I picked up a Hanna Montana Washburn guitar at a yard sale for $10 once, and it's in pieces and the body and headstock are sanded down, waiting for primer. I'm debating sanding the edges of the body to be more rounded, first. Depending how it ends up turning out, I may go ahead and experiment with bridge pickups on it (if the size would work, I'm not even sure... I think it's a 3/4-size guitar).

Jaguars are beautiful guitars. I just love how they look. That neck alone is stunning! However... the sound of a jag is totally distinct, and not a tone I'm looking for. (but I still kinda want one just to look at.) If i were building, I would want the same wiring you went with. I think it's superior to the wiring available on the Mod Shop. But, I dislike poly finishes, so I would try to get ahold of parts with a nitro finish, or I'd end up refinishing them myself. And though on most guitars I don't care for red, I'd probably go with a Dakota or Fiesta Red and I'd put a gold racing stripe on it. Jaguars look like an art-deco peice, so I'd want all the bling.

i recommend the puisheen channel to learn to set up the Jaguar. He argues it needs a shim in the neck and at least 0.11 strings to have the proper tension and avoid the buzzing and the strings popping out of the bidge saddles. It also will help to set the tremolo properly. nice build! cheers!

I actually bought the Ventera HH jaguar MOD (sonic blue too). I didn't like the vintage white pick guard though so I bought a white pearlescent replacement (making it look kinda like Cobain's sonic blueJagStang). Problem was getting those pickups back on a new guard though because they rely upon these springs that I can't get it (there's even a video about this problem that utilizes straws that couldn't help me). Your solution with black foam is something I'll try next.

Awesome guitar. I ended up returning my Jaguar block inlay neck and cancelling that build for now. One thing to keep in mind about Jaguars and Jazzmasters-some of the MIM model bodies are being built with the trem system moved up slightly higher on the body. The J Mascis Jazzmaster does this as well. This Vintera Modified body that you used has this feature. The regular Vintera Jag does not. This modification is supposed to change the string “break angle” on the bridge when using the tremolo and increase tuning stability. I had a J mascis body on my partscaster Jazzmaster at first, but I came to strongly dislike this new trem location. It made the trem arm go forward too far and it felt awkward for me. I ended up switching to a Jazzmaster Vintera body (not modified) with the original trem position and I like it way better. I prefer the vintage string break angle and now I can actually play behind the bridge for weird sounds too. Tuning stability is just fine, especially with my mastery bridge (which was not designed with fender’s new trem location in mind). You have a American Pro Jazzmaster with the original trem location with the rosewood neck- I encourage you to compare the trem on that to this Jag and see what you think. Maybe it won’t be worth swapping the body to you, but it was to me. Sorry for the long comment. Great video 🤷‍♂️

Hey Landon-great build that resulted in a BEAUTIFUL guitar-you should be very proud. And loved the sound of those Fender Vintage 65 Jaguar pickups. One question-did you have to shim the neck pocket to get tuning stability with the Jaguar bridge? That seems to be a very common problem with the Squier Jaguars (even the Classic Vibe series) as they usually require some shimming of neck pocket to tilt neck backwards slightly to get adequate downward tension of strings across the bridge and attain tuning stability with the floating bridge/tremolo system. I assume since you didnt indicate doing so that this was not a problem on your build. Its a shame that the Squier Ckassic Vibe Jaguars don’t correct this problem with adjusted carve of neck pocket-and since Fender Jaguar models don’t usually come in classic vintage configuration with two single coils unless you get into the higher priced vintage repo versions, you can’t buy a more modestly priced Squier version to try out a vintage Jaguar without dealing with the neck pocket angle issues and doing some shimming. Given that Squier CV Jaguars are considerably more expensive than the Affinity series Jaguars that usually come with humbuckers and a fixed non-tremolo bridge-its really frustrating for someone who wants to try out a vintage style more modestly priced Jaguar with traditional single coils and control set up. Keep up great work-your videos are always a pleasant blend of good information and humor!!

@@simonfinch9277 not sure what floating tremolo has to do with the bridge. Tuning issues may occur whether you have a crappy vintage jag bridge, mustang bridge or modern mastery bridge. It doesn’t really matter
@simonfinch9277
@simonfinch9277 2 жыл бұрын
Because the bridge dictates is the tremolo is floating or not, as you can see the trem is a big bulky thing, it's not routed in the back so in order to make the trem floating you need to have a bridge that floats. Floating jaguar bridges are notorious for not returning in pitch after using the system itself.
@simonfinch9277
@simonfinch9277 2 жыл бұрын
You can have the vintage bridge and have a great stable experiance as long as you set it up correctly. In order to have a good setup on a jaguar you need to create a good break angle. So you can shim the neck, and raise the bridge up higher. I highly recommend the KZbin channel called Puisheen.

Well, I hope you will follow up with the bridge setup later. That should be the most problematic part of your JM/Jag. It looks like you went with a tune-a-matic bridge (less common except for J Mascia's), and plan to use 10's. Hmmm. Maybe you can get away with 10's with the shorter scale neck of the Jag. I kind of prefer the longer necks of the JM. To eliminate all the bridge rattle, etc., the typical solution is to raise the bridge considerably and create string tension with a greater break angle. Usually 11's are recommended as minimum, and the neck gets a shim of about .5 to 1 degree so that you can still keep a lower action. I have to believe that, as is, your strings are all over the place after using the vibrato. It will be interesting to see how that tune-a-matic turns out. I just got a JM recently, and it's a fussy Diva, but I'm really loving it for surfer and rockabilly stuff so far. The 12's I use are growing on me. :)
