depending on what music scene you're in, Jags are anything but underrated
@snapfinger16 ай бұрын
The Jag was neglected from the waning of surf in the early ‘70 until its resurgence w/ punk/new wave late ‘70s. Early ‘90’s grunge winner.
@hoilst265Ай бұрын
Yeah, the Jag was was just thirty years ahead of the times. I swear, that long stretch of strings, resonating behind the bridge, is the sound of the 90s.

omg that burgundy mist Jag is a dream! what an awesome video. My favourite two Fenders are Mustangs and Jags. The most comfortable to play for me, and I love the sound of both and the look 🙏 loved this video!

Nice RHCP reference at 5:30ish minute mark. One of klinghoffer’s best riffs. So pretty and quirky. Nicely done. That’s also one of the songs that made me want a Jag. Not sure if he used one on this or not though. 😂

The 24" scale is actually just as close to Gibson's 24.75" scale length as Fender's traditional 25.5" scale
@flapjack4136 ай бұрын
No, Gibson's so called 24 3/4" scale is actually 24.594", or roughly 24 9/16". My jags definitely feel closer to my LP than my jazzmaster compared to my LP. But yeah, if the Les Paul were a true 24.75", then yeah, it would be right in the middle of the two.
@teensupertiger6 ай бұрын
you mess up the switches explanation. The "strangled" switch is the one closest to the volume knob. The middle swicth is the bridge on off. The switch close to the neck is for the neck pickup.

Thank you. I was just checking to see if anyone else clarified that before I did.

To me, the Jaguar is my personal Strat. I own an olympic white Fender Crafted in Japan Jaguar, 2002-2004 and it's the most joy to play with it, including the ways how you can change the tone with a Jag😃

Been researching Jaguars recently - very interested to try the Johnny Marr Jag - the mods he asked Fender to put in make a lot of sense to me (for my style, anyway). The recentish Gold Foil Jazzmaster also seems to be pretty interesting.

I remember in the 80's We Buy Used Guitars on 48th Street in NYC was full of used vintage Jaguars and Jazzmasters for dirt cheap. Nobody wanted them. Then Nirvana came out and the prices went through the roof.

I have been jazzmaster guy generally though had 2003japanese jaguar first but then got 62 jazzmaster and jaguar seemed shrull by conparison , then got 94 jaguar the same thing swapped that for japanese jazzmaster same thing at this point i realised it wasn't the jaguars it was japanese fender pickups.

Would love to see a picture of that Jaguar under the pickguard because to my eyes that’s undoubtedly Foam Green. I have a couple of original sonic blue Instruments, faded and unfaded. Neither of them looks anything like this. I briefly owned a 1966 Foam Green Jaguar and it was exactly this shade of green under the pickguard

I don't have room for anymore guitars. But my next guitar is gonna be a Johnny Marr Jaguar.😁

I wanted a fiesta red Jaguar for my first guitar. Here where I live in Australia, back in the late '60,'s a Jag was about $300. There was no way known my folks could come up with that sort of cash for my first guitar. I had a habit of starting something, then shortly thereafter, I'd drop it, bored with that. But I have stuck with playing guitar. My first guitar was a Dutch mongrel thing called an Egmond. There has never been a bigger piece of shit with strings attached, than this. I did a Pete Townsend with it. I have a good, modest, selection now, and at 71, that will probably do me. We shall see.

This video carries on the long KZbin tradition of Jaguars sounding absolutely terrible. They are so misunderstood by modern players who never use the 'rhythm circuit' or who swap out the pots for 500 or 250k. It's a guitar of its time. Almost stubbornly so. Stick heavy flatwound strings on and play clean and every single switch, pickup, setting and sound makes perfect sense. Most modern players are going by looks alone and would be better served with a Tele or Les Paul.

EDIT: I forgot I could prolly walk into your store and find a decently priced period accurate American Jag. I really miss living down the street from you guys in Lakeview!! God I want a Jag so damn bad. I love the short scale, and I love my Duo Sonic but I need it! Super bummed I missed out a few years back when they were making these in the American Standard line, now you have to get something that is affordable but not really period correct or a REALLY expensive American model. Why did Fender take them off the standard line after like 2019!??!?!

I love Jaguars but they’re no fun to shop for if your budget is like3-4k. There’s nothing out there but overpriced beaters that have been through hell. I just got a 7-1/2lb AV2 Jazzmaster for $2500 and it’s incredible.

How is Jaguar underrated ? Not at all. Expensive - yes, mostly unachievable but not underrated. And Duosonic IMHO was.
@chaz326 ай бұрын
Aren't the metallics rarer purely because you had to pay extra? They're all DuPont car colours of course but the metallic would have to be mixed specially. Most store models or simple catalogue orders would adhere to the usual colours.

The built in fuzz is something that I'm surprised wasn't done by Fender back in the day, specifically for the Jaguar. It was attempted by Gibson around the same time with the eb-0f and shortly after with Vox and others, but it makes a ton more sense than a "rhythm switch" for a guitar that developed and marketed specifically for surf and modern guitarists in mind. On the Jazzmaster it made total sense.
