Building a Custom Truck Camper for my F-150

Finally finished my second build, guys! I already know this camper will be a lifesaver... Between having electrical now and a lot less fuel consumption, I'm in a much better spot! So thankful it all worked out.

i would recommend a Dutch style door just for safety reasons... because if someone pushed your tailgate up while you were sleeping, you would need to shimmy your way out from the windows, given how tiny they are, it would not be fun

Good point. At least a small hatch in the door itself. That way, you yourself could, in theory, pull up the draw bridge. If the tailgate has a lock on ot then even more safety.

Just put a combo lock on the tailgate hooks, or lockable swing down wood pieces from the insides to stop the tailgate from engaging. Easy and cheap fixes!

I enjoyed every second of this build, I'm 54 years old and I never attempted a build like this let alone film it and post it, you were taught the correct way, raised the correct way, your parents should be proud as shit to have raised you, you are an intelligent, talented young man, stay on the steaight and narrow and you will be successful in aspect of life, awesome job my man.

Just a suggestion. When running your wiring. You should put service loops at both ends and zip tie them neatly. So you’ll always have slack for unexpected issues. Especially since you didn’t get your green light immediately. Lol. In the inside battery compartment. You can make a circle on all your wiring then secure it to the wood walls withe cable tacks and zip ties. It’ll look neat and you’ll always have slack for you and the next owner. 👍🏾✌🏾

Looks good. If it were me…if you weren’t going to insulate, I would have paneled the roof like you did, just to dress it up and hide the wires, but I wouldn’t have paneled the sides. Keep the weight down. I’m getting ready to build a 9’ for my 83’ F350, similar to what ENDGAME does. Going to let it cantilever a foot out the back of the bed. I’m thinking of building one to play and figure it out (mostly the electrical), flex my 30+ years of cabinetry and carpentry skills, then build myself one. Definitely gonna insulate both with foam though. Either way good job. And good on your dad for teaching you a usable skill. 😁👍

Well done! Wish I’d had time for my dad to share his skills with me… He would have loved building a tiny home with me! Just one note: PLEASE wear PPE when you are using spray paints and eye protection and a respirator when working with resins… it doesn’t take much exposure to cause lung damage!

I’d recommend a Dometic or Advent RV air conditioner for the roof . Maybe sand the roof as well for a smoother textured fiberglass. Camper looks awesome . Great job with the electric as well. Amazing build. Enjoy! Also I’d recommend purchasing a garden sprayer, they are cheap compact and work great for washing things or even yourself! Fill with hot water and rinse anything you need with water pressure. I Look forward to the adventures Andrew!

Thanks a ton for the tips! I’ll have to look into those. I did end up sanding the fiberglass a bit, but I didn’t get any good footage so I didn’t show it, definitely wasn’t perfect though… 😅 thanks! I’m so happy the electrical worked out. I had no idea what I was doing aside from the KZbin tutorials I was watching, so that was pretty rewarding to have it work! @@andrewryanpov yeah man the garden sprayer is my own personal idea. I lived in a spot with no hot water once and bought two of them , one had a really nice shower head type spray . Well I used to heat hot water in a rice cooker which are also handy to have for various things. I was able to get a decent shower in with 2 of them going. Would be good for washing dishes outside and stuff too. Can’t wait to see the evolution of the channel, you’ve come so far in such a short time. Best of luck !

When you said “thanks Dad for teaching me how to do construction” ❤ that was nice to hear. As someone who grew up with a Dad who didn’t even want to spend time with his kids, I really feel happy when I know someone else had a present Dad. My Mom remarried a few years ago and although I’m grown I get a lesson or two on how to do things from a proper Dad. I appreciate those moments. He’s a plumber btw so some lessons are not always easy for me 😂 Edit: he raised my two brothers since he and my Mom started dating years back. I’m glad those boys have him.

Glad to see you! Missed your updates. I’m not sure if you’re like me but I thoroughly enjoy spending as much time as possible during the summer in our Coach. It’s a luxurious DP with all the amenities so one can literally spend weeks or months in it without being uncomfortable. Whenever I pack up to return home…I am literally kind of tweaking for the next trip and I’ve barely left the campsite. I literally begin to feel kind of cranky, sad and depressed if I haven’t spent some time in the Coach in a week or so. I love my home and wife but it’s hard to explain. I enjoy being alone with my dogs and doing the outdoor things that I enjoy. Anyway…glad to see your progress and really enjoy watching you work on it. 👍

Omg what an awesome build.Mate I'm very impressed. And I can tell you are so happy with how the new camper has turned out. Here in New Zealand we can't put in electrics if we are not qualified.all has to be done by a certified electrician. and you have to display the certificate on your windshield next to your vehicle Warrant of fitness and your certificate will only be valid for 4 years then you need to re certify for another 4 years and so on.Once again fantastic job my friend your friend mike from New Zealand 🇳🇿

A pretty good job. The only thing I might have done is added some height to the ceiling about another 6 inches. As it is you could easily bump your head in several places. But hey, it's your head. (grins)
