Building a custom watch - Vostok

I'm not absolutely 100% sure if this is correct, but I believe that you need to remove the date complication to be able to fit those hands. The added thickness of the dial needs to be accounted for. The movement you fitted is 2416B (with date complication). New Vostoks that have a dial without date window get a movement without calendar wheel, but it still has a date plate attached (2415.01 movement) and they get that plate just so the dial would sit closer to the crystal. With vintage Vostok cases you don't need the extra thickness of the date plate, but with new ones you do. And on Vostoks with sandwich dials they even remove the date plate to account for the added thickness (making it what they call a 2415). So you need to turn your 2416B into a 2415, removing the calendar wheel, date plate and all little parts dial-side that belong to the date complication.

Spotted that dial on eBay, but wasn't sure about the fit since it felt a bit small. Now seeing what you have made I will be buying one. The final watch is perfect. You have a nice taste with colors, Cheers mate!

Too bad about the hands. It still turned out nice with the dial and after market bezel. Vostoks are fun to mod. I have a komandirskie that I filed then wet sanded all the Chrome off the bezel. It looks great. I also have a NOS "Vostok century time" orange dial for a future project.

Thanks, I've modded a good few vostoks at this stage. That sounds great, I haven't stripped the crome off any yet but I believe you can do it with muritic acid if you dont want to file and sand. It's great finding old dials for projects I found a nice white one for my next build

@@BlanchyTalksWatches The Chrome came off pretty easy. I would like to find a old plated case Vostok amphibian and take it to brass. All the newer ones are stainless steel. I may try the acid on the crown.

I was pretty annoyed at first but I really like the black hands on it now, the dial is so bright that it doesn't need another colour

Dear sir, I have 2 questions: To change the bezel in 710 case vostok amphibia watch, Do I have to buy only the Bezel Insert or I have to buy separate bezel and bezel insert ? Will you recommend 710 or 420 case, my wrist size is 6.6 inches. ❤️ from India.

You will need to buy the separate bezel and insert. The standard vostok ones won't work with Seiko inserts like I used here. The 420 is a smaller case so may fit better but I prefer the look of the 710

@@BlanchyTalksWatches I had a similar experience with the white version of the same set. The hour hand would not go on but the minute hand was Ok. I tested the hour hand on a spare movement I had with no dial and the hand still could not be fitted. The hour hand was just too small for the post. Very frustrating.

Yep it's really easy, you just take out the stem and the movement/dial will fit straight in
