Like this. You may want to try a heat gun for cutting the river channel.

Thanks for the tip Texas. I actually thought about it but I didn't have a heat gun and my blow dryer didn't do much too it. :/ So I just ended up doing it the hard way. haha

Strictly Come Dancing is on prime time weekend TV in the UK at the moment - it's basically celebrities paired with professional dancers - one celeb gets voted off each week. My wife was watching it at the same time I was watching your video. Your video (IMHO) was also more entertaining than the England vs Estonia football match (and I do quite like football)!

Can you share some info about your hot wire cutter used in this vid? I assume it is hotwire rather than a band/scroll saw. Either way what is it? and where can I get one? :) very interested in following this series and even my wife now seems interested in terrain building which is awesome. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work.

after breaking the shiny toplayer of these plates you can easily shape riverbeds etc. with a heatgun used for paint removal (maby hairdrier works too havent tried yet :P)

You mentioned having trouble finding the material in California. Is this the same material as the rigid insulation you pick up at Home Depot/Lowes? If available, you may want to check it out as it comes in 4ft x 8ft sheets for pretty cheap.

Mike Guy yeh but it's comes and goes. They do sell the 4x8 in 1/2inch I believe (around my area) but it's a pain in the but to get back home. Now they have them in 2x2 so it makes life very easy.

@Chung- You said that you were going to glue the foam down later to some board. I had bought some 1/4' hardboard and glued mine down but it seems to have warped as the glue (Titebond II Premium Wood Glue). I had the foam under 30lbs of weight spread over the entirety. What should I have done differently? Should the glue be watered down or what?
@WGConsortium
@WGConsortium 9 жыл бұрын
I don't. I just glue it as you said. What's warping? The foam or the boards?
@designatedTuber
@designatedTuber 9 жыл бұрын
The Wargamers Consortium I think it's the board as the foam doesn't really flex either way. It seems like the glue didn't "pull into the foam" and just hardened and expanded causing the board to push away a bit. It's not going anywhere, it just caught me by surprise. I'll probably just fill the gaps with spackle and sand it smooth. It's just going to be annoying when I have boards slid up next to each other. Once I get the other (at least) two done, I'll have to put them together and sand them all level.
@WGConsortium
@WGConsortium 9 жыл бұрын
Dan Bellinger Foam to foam it did do that to me in one of the sections and filled it with spackly on the ends. But if you watch my Ruined City video part 1, You'll see me gluing the foam to MDF boards and they worked fine. When you need to make sure is to spread the glue so no air is trapped in it. I think that might be the problem. What I don't show in the video when I put the pieces together when I just applied the glue was that I shifted the two pieces around to spread the glue. Maybe that's what you should try next time. Or just spread it out with a piece of cardboard. I think I do that out of habit cause I heard somewhere if air gets trapped the foam will bend when the glue dries, expends and pushed the air.
