Building a Film Printer/Recorder

Looking back t the history of Film..
The film Printer was a major part of the transition from Film to Digital. In this video Martin Gardiner goes over how he and I build a Film printer very early on in the transition. Martin goes over many of the technical hurdles and how we over come them.
Its an interesting look back at film and how the digital transition began.

So much more sophisticated than mine! I just pointed a 16mm camera at an 800x600 line CRT. I think I ran mine at about 8 or 10fps. I agree with the size/distance reasoning.

One of the first systems to really gain traction in the computer graphics world was the PCR (Personal Computer Recorder) from Matrix Instruments, which was a deskside instrument the size of a pedestal water fountain which could record to either 35mm still film or 16mm cinema film, and in 1985 it had 4K resolution and 16 million colours, both of which were unheard of in portable film recorders at the time. While its colour depth still wasn't good enough for live action cinema, it was still used in some experimental CG filmmaking.
