Optical Printing 101 : Part 1
I set up my optical department at Phil Tippett's studio to produce the VistaVision low contrast masked plates for the in camera rear projection compositing with the stop motion animation for Robocop 2 and 3. I also made the 8 perf. to 4 perf. reductions and other various optical effects. This instructional video was made for others that would take over my optical duties when I had to start setting up and animating my assigned shots. Bob Costa eventually came in and operated the printer and then Fred Lin.

Just wanted to echo what others have said: thank you for posting this video. I have been trying to find more information on these printers and the processes surrounding them. There is surprisingly little information on these incredible machines; especially when one considers their groundbreaking contributions to modern day image making.
