Just unbelievable skill. I watched you check that everything is plumb and inline with the level. Then you casually measure the height with a tape measure and it's spot-on. I wish I could do that. Your mortar seems just like double cream. How long do you run the mixer for and is it 4 sand to 1 cement? Is there plasticiser, or something? Amazed to see you in action.
@SteveAndAlexBuild5 жыл бұрын
sean kirby Nice one Sean , thanks very much . Yes the mix is 4 to 1 with concentrated plasticiser in and it’s mixed for 10 to 15 mins to get the plasticiser working 🧱👍🏼

S&A Well done in that mudbath not ideal conditions to work in 🙈 So when that wall is finished you level that up with ground till the block wall level ?🤔 Or you dig out the dirt for a cavity space under the Floor ?
@SteveAndAlexBuild5 жыл бұрын
Jay Puyenbroeck . Hi Jay once the block is levelled up we put 4 courses of engineering bricks on 300 mm high . Next it is filled to the top of the block on the inside and then outside ground level is 2 course showing . Sand is put down then the damp proof membrane, them reinforcing mesh . The concrete is poured to 1 below DPC at the back and slopes down to 2 below at the front . The slab is then suspended on the inside 100mm of the blocks . Garage slabs must always fall to the door . Hope all that makes sense 😬. Next week is part 2 .... the brickwork 🧱👍🏼

Bricklaying With Steve and Alex dose it say on the plans to lay it flat or do you just do it flat
@SteveAndAlexBuild4 жыл бұрын
Will Knight . The plans don’t mention an inside skin so only show the outside one but it is needed . The lads we work for ask for 4” flat block . A lot of builders just use trench blocks which are 300 mm wide 🧱👍🏽

Class as always 🧱. Iv not been on a big site for years. Do private work mainly extensions and the odd new build. Compared to you lads I’m not a bricklayer more a builder who can lay bricks. I’m intrigued by how you set your corners off, is it all done by an engineer who puts his nail at all the corners and you just run a line through? And does the height to damp come from the height of the nail. ? Iv not been on a big site for about 15 years but the money seems to be very good so fancy a bash on site. Don’t seem to see any timber profiles round trenches. Is that all finished with now? I still do it that way. Might seem stupid question but if you don’t know you don’t know. Love your videos pal. 🧱👌
@SteveAndAlexBuild5 жыл бұрын
LookitsMeNotYou . First thanks for watching pal and we are glad you like the channel 👍🏼. It’s all done by lasers and satellites now ..... no joke ! The engineers come in and put pins in every corner for the lads to dig . When they are set up they transfer those pins to outside the dig area . We come in and put our lines on the pins (offsets ) , similar to the old profiles without the faff .we then plumb down for our corners . If we are lucky the engineers come back to re Mark the corners in the concrete with masonry nails . As for the levels they are transferred with the laser level . The biggest improvement is the forks for the excavators ..... magic , the drivers can get your gear lovely and close 👌🏼. If you look for our double garage video part 1 we set out and put the levels on that one . Thanks again pal 🧱👍🏼

Concrete blocks are great when laying on there flat it's when you are building cavity walls with them day in day out as happens a lot in Ireland they are a bit more work when you lay them flat why do you not lay them two row at a time one on top of other means you are only setting line every 225mm
@SteveAndAlexBuild5 жыл бұрын
wheaten bread stretcher bonded is stronger and we put the line up 2 anyway . Two different ways and both right 👌🏼🧱👍🏽
@scoyle17505 жыл бұрын
@@SteveAndAlexBuild It is stretcher bond but you are laying two row of block at same time one on top of other as one 225mm course it is quicker to lay also when laying block on flat I have my young fella putting mortar on wall with shovel slighty in front of me as a lot less pissing about but fair enough each to there own ways which is the great thing about bricklaying we all have our own ways but when it comes to laying concrete blocks take a trip to Ireland concrete block layers everywhere
