Nice planning and execution. Your Teflon tape was put on in the wrong direction that's why it was coming off as the fitting was going on. You might try "walking the cup" as you tig weld rather than free handing it. You are very blessed to have the material and a fab shop outfitted with the tools it has. Keep up the good work.

I remember my first job in a machine shop I kept fiddling with the speed and lost a few teeth.. the foreman lost his shit and replaced the blade.. I was all damn it was still cutting fine.. But as soon as I heard the skipped teeth in this vid it took me back lmao
@daveo.66597 жыл бұрын
Nicely done! A small tip, use it or not as you wish. When threading internal threads on a lathe turned part leave it in the lathe and set the lathe into back gear and use a center in the tail stock to keep the tap in perfect alignment to the bore. Turn off the power on the lathe and turn the tap wrench by hand to start the thread. If the back gears aren't enough resistance to thread all the way down you can then remove the part from the lathe and finish in a vice and the threads will be perfectly straight and concentric to the bore.

I'm sure you're right and I'm wrong but why did you go from the large diameter tube for the fan into the thin one? Seems like if you're using those squirrel cage fans, (high volume / low pressure) you'd want to keep the pipe large. Seems like if you were going to use that small pipe, you'd want to use air from a compressor (lower volume/high pressure)? I'd think the squirrel cages could only put a certain amount in, and the rest would be wasted potential, (the fan will turn at the same RPMs but it won't suck in any more air than it can push out). In fluid dynamics, when you cut the diameter of a pipe in half, you cut the volume by around four times. I bet you could test out my theory by turning on one fan (you'd have to block off the intake hole on the second fan while its off) and seeing how much air comes out inside the furnace, then when you turn on the second fan, I doubt it will add much more air, and I really doubt it would be double the air. Not trying to criticize, I'm a union boilermaker and work around this stuff, except some of our burners are so big, several of us can stand inside them at once.
@freerkwieringa2757 жыл бұрын
I have built forges with one fan. This one Bruns considerably hotter. You are right that a bigger tube would be better but I had to work with what I can get for a reasonable price. I think a fluid narrowing exellerates the air flow also.
@freerkwieringa2757 жыл бұрын
Also. When the forge burns high. It starts to suck in the air making it a hybrid.

caleb terry no. I would have to jump into the books and also buy very high temperature measurement tools. It is pritty efficient I think. The coating helps allot. The chamber is well isolated and even at high gas pressure there is enough air flow to get a optimum combustion. But I am no expert on the science.

I like your videos very much but you have to think about some cutting speeds. For example the reamer way too fast and no oil it lasts not long, bandsaw tube cutting is the same. Some drilling is too fast some too slow and tapping is easier when you let the tap drill just grip for two or three rounds to get the right direction than it's easier to get it done by hand. Anyway I'm nagged around to much like I said I like your videos your workplace looks like mine always chaotic but productive keep up and Merry Christmas for you and your family P. S. I think that pipe on the lid don't last very long

XJ9 thanks. No I guess it will not. Have to make a fire resistant concrete one.. Thanks for the tips. On the pillar drill I use the slow setting as it is a " band" transmission. Perhaps he would or perhaps he wouldn't, some people prefer no commentary and videos are pretty self-explanatory. And while he does speak/understand English, you'd be surprised how many people don't, so having a commentary (even if subtitles were added later) would not only serve no purpose, but it would also show more detrimental. I can show videos like this one to my father and he'll probably enjoy watching it, but if there was some someone speaking a language he doesn't understand, he would probably be bothered by it. There is also the fact people talk over the sounds of machinery/forging, the sounds which are quite nice to listen for some of us and someone speaking would ruin them and serve as a distraction. If people don't understand what he's doing, they can ask in the comments, he replies to a lot of them. No commentary also helps you focus on what is being shown, most things make sense if you give it some thought. It's harsh if you don't know much about forging and similar stuff, yes, but the frustration of not understanding may convince you to educate yourself on things you couldn't understand in the video.
@slick44017 жыл бұрын
If you can't understand by watching, you are in the wrong business.
@YoungBrave20067 жыл бұрын
I am definitely in the right business, which is not blacksmithing, and yet I can understand just by watching. However, a lot of people take up blacksmithing as a hobbie, and don't have a lot of formal education about it. I'm just giving him some advice about how to grow his channel. Here's a guy that does homemade PVC bows, and REALLY basic blacksmithing, way below the level of this channel: kzbin.info Look at his subs, and compare them to this channel. Anyways, the man already replied to me, if he doesn't want to grow his channel, that's fine by me, I just don't see why all you other assholes have to chime in on this convo, which concerns none of you.
@troylowry42397 жыл бұрын
Other channels such as primitive technology do similar style videos where there is no speaking, however he adds some textual commentary as the closed captions, which people can just toggle
