FYI, I could be wrong but I believe the 20v, refers to a max voltage, they are more than likely 18v tools. American Dewalt tools are advertised as 20v but are the same as the uk 18v range. I believe this is the case here too. Great video though ❤

Correct, 18V is the so called "nominal voltage" of the cells (5 x 3,6). 20V is the maximum voltage of the cells (5 x 4).

20 V is max voltage that the batterry is able to produce only for a very short time, like a second or two when charged to 100%. After that it drops to the nominal voltage, which is 18 V. Since regulation is more strict and consumer protections are stronger in Europe, companies are not allowed to advertise these tools/batteries as 20 V.

That is fantastic! I truly enjoyed your video… the entire production was first rate, (I even enjoyed the music)! I am so jealous of that setup. As for the two remaining panels, I would put my collection of hammers in one, (I’m a woodworker, so I have many different types), and then some basic hand tools in the other, (screwdrivers, pliers, scrapers, set up blocks, etc.). Thanks for sharing that with us! ☮️♥️

Ok, I have to say the Shadowfoam product looks pretty good. I wasn't aware of it before stumbling over this. I've been doing a lot of 3D printing of "Gridfinity" storage boxes and they have their place but printing holders for tools might be a bit too large. May have to get me some of this foam. I'm very over everything just laying around in piles making it impossible to find anything, a constant low level irritant, not just in the workshop but also just in day to day life. Great end result here as well. I can more see myself using it in tool drawers and the like but you never know. Now all I need is a CNC machine slash laser... 😬

I agree, it looks nice but not for my used dirty tools. Maybe it would work good for a stationary work space. I have my corded tools in one drawer, air tools in another and battery powered in a carry bag. Instead of the picture frames, i could see this in a wall mounted cabinet, so it wouldn't take up so much wall space.

Interesting, your video came on my feed. I like the idea, I built a standard French cleat tool shelf, small area...but this is next level. If you keep the top frames I would insert slim batons sprayed black on either side of the Shadow Foam logo to get the top frames to have the same overall width as the bottom frames. Personally I would have a charger unit mounted into one of the empty frames with power wired in. This way you can keep batteries charged, as you check a battery and see its LED is not green you could then just pull it out and slot it into the charger on the wall without needing to pull out a charger or have a charger taking up valuable bench space. You have a power cable lower so wiring up power for a semi permanent charger location would simple and not aesthetically unpleasing Given you have multiple chargers having one wall mounted would not take away from your flexibility as you would still have chargers left to take with you on jobs as necessary.

Got to be careful that you do not restrict air flow around batteries and chargers as they will quickly overheat. I suspect this is a very bad idea in practice despite being a temptingly desirable aesthetic solution.

I know I have a habit of putting LED on everything, but it'd be cool to see a LED panel setup behind the foam panels, shining through the outline. It would depend on the foam type/color/transparency to make sure it doesn't just bleed light everywhere, though.

@cybershocked
@cybershocked 7 ай бұрын
I could see it working from view of the fit, and it sitting off the wall would even allow for the cable. But my concern about charging would be the heat. I would not feel happy leaving so little ventilation room around a battery and charger in use. Best I can think of is smaller empty frames perhaps, just to hang alongside, into which you can place a charger and battery on their own, no foam. Maybe a logo or some other aesthetic filler to put in place when the charger is not in use, to at least stop them looking out of place when empty. Could even have foam a cutout for the charger only, cable routed through the back. Tidy when not in use, and just remove the foam when it is.

You will notice on all 20V batteries the legend "Max" which indicates that this is the absolute maximum voltage you can expect from the battery. All 18/20V batteries will show 20V straight from the charger. Once run, the battery will settle down to it's 18V norm. The 20V tag is a marketing ploy. I believe it started with DeWalt some 20+ years ago to make their 'new' product stand out from all the 18V tools...mainly, at the time, Makita.

Im looking at replicating this and just checked the sheets on your site. When you measured the internals of the frame readying the CNC I think you said 505mm, which is bigger than your medium sheets @ 500mm (which I would hope to get 2 out of), what can you recommend?

Personal observations: 1) The foam over time with heavier items will eventually crush downwards, with assistance from the forces of gravity. 2) Anyone that does any type of automotive or metalworking unless super anal-retentive with OCD will find a tiny layer of lubricant on their tools to assist with the prevention of corrosion. The lubricants used are predominately of the type that will inevitably destroy the foam.

And the most obvious one - this is perfect only for places with lots of walls and no storage racks. Some kind of a labyrinth maybe?

Great observations! We’ve not found any crushing in the foam wall installations we’ve put up so far, but some of them have only been up 2 or 3 years but it’s unlikely by the foams design. Our foam is also waterproof so it should be resistant to lubricants. This French cleat system is adaptable, I only made it this size because of the large amount of wall space I had at my disposal. Love the conversation mate, always a joy chatting foam

Let me see if I understand this correctly...you throw out the backer board from ikea...and then throw away the glass front and what you are essentially left with is a very cheaply made picture frame that appears to be stapled together. So you essentially paid $19 pounds for a crappy picture frame?

A very unique idea in tool organization. I never would have thought of it. My tools are divided into many categories as they range from gunsmithing, RC cars, wood working, power tools, guitar luthier, automotive etc. So my main worry is what is the life of shadow foam? I have seen some foams from my father's equipment and over a decade it just disintegrated and turned powdery due to mould or age. So for me this could be a big investment and my main worry is it's life. I would be grateful if you could guide me with your opinion on this matter. Superb content by the way and have a great day.

That foam is pick and pluck, famous for disintergrating and that inspired me to create Shadow Foam as a hard wearing, long lasting alternative! I’ve had installations up for 3-4 years in my unit so far and they show no sign of wear or tear.
