As a self taught beginner tuner, these are my favorite videos. Also, I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, as a teacher, Jimmy is pretty damn good at explaining concepts without diluting the meaning. A+ job sir.

Jimmy if you want to keep the pistons in shape you will need all 12 coils. It designed to have twin spark, it will melt ringlands if you don’t use it

Why would it melt the ringlands? Genuinely curious because I have no idea why and how that would cause it to melt pistons

It may have been designed to need twin spark using the old distributor and leads, but that might not be an issue with the smart coils.
@ClimptonDiddlehopper
@ClimptonDiddlehopper Жыл бұрын
Um, it's an emissions thing like Nissan. The secondary ignition fires on the exhaust stroke to ignite any unburnt fuel. It's nothing to do with the actual igniting of the power stroke. You would have to set the secondary ignition just advanced of the primary to hurt the piston or ring Lans. Doing that would be about as dumb as thinking deleting the secondary system for smart coils could damage the pistons.

Great video with air cooled Porsche content. Air cooled Porsches usually have twin spark when they are set up with higher compression. The high comp piston design reduces the efficiency of a single spark which can’t produce a flame front that bridges the hump in the piston top. The second spark below solves the problem.

You can problems with knocking when removing the secondary coils. Sometimes manufacterer add these to compensate for inefficient combustion chambers (they value flow and Power over knock potential). It will be very interesting to see the results of turning them off. Learned that Fromm a professor at our university who designed engines for 20 years

Watching you wrapping that harness took me back to my apprentice days when I had to build a prototype harness for a kit car on a 8 ft by 6 ft board with markerpen outlines of the whole electrical system. We had to use the old school looming cord and no plugs, all ring, spade, blade and male and female terminals. A 1 day test and it had to be a one piece harness all working without ever seeing the car. That was the first and last day I've ever used looming cord as I'm an industrial electrician and everything is in/on cabe tray, trunking, conduit or hidden behind panels. Love your work but it's no Rob Dahm milspec harness LOL
