Love your design, very stylish, very strong. However one weak spot: the foundation. Not the concrete part, enough strength to carry the weight. But I see only 12 screws total attaching the whole greenhouse to the concrete. A little uplift by wind could take that quickly apart. At least double the number of screws, anchor bolts would be better and it would also be a good idea to attach those brackets to the wood with bolts and nuts instead of screws. Would be a pity to see in a storm that whole beautiful structure being sucked into the air ... just because of 12 screws.

if you leave a space at the top you can do a ridgepole i would do 8' sections make them modulrar easy to put up and take down of course you would have 2 touching every 8' but that would make it much stronger and 1 person could easily put up by themselves i have made them this way and there very handy

Just a question. Why didn't you put your bracing in the concrete footings while poring it but instead drilling then in after? You mustn't have wind at all. But build came together well.

I'm not sure if cedar is flexible enough to accomplish this...?
@renaissancewomanfarm9175 Жыл бұрын
@@pugsymalone6539 I am not sure of the flexibility of cedar. BUT that being said, if your cedar boards weren't too thick, and if they were as knot free as possible and if you steamed them before you them in the jig hot, then I believe they would work out fine.
@pugsymalone6539 Жыл бұрын
@@renaissancewomanfarm9175 sounds right. Drop me a line if you give it a try.
@renaissancewomanfarm9175 Жыл бұрын
@@pugsymalone6539 I just found a channel yesterday that showed building the Gothic arch trusses in greater detail and with instruction. He was building a styroaircrete shed. To get his arches he cut his stock to half inch thin and he bent those strips into his jig, gluing laminations as he went. It looked less labor intensive. I definitely want to give it a go, whether for a shed, greenhouse or as a roof on another structure. If you are interested the channel was ... Stephen Williams.

Your video is amazing What size wood did you use?
@bennigoes61766 жыл бұрын
Thank you, the battens I used were cheap sized 24x48mm ones. I plained them to 20x44 mm, because the surface was pretty rough.
@swimmer5376 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply. I will work on getting some wood around that size How did you figure out the length you needed for that arch?
@bennigoes61766 жыл бұрын
I thought about the size the greenhouse should've been and I tried different curves and lengths in google sketch up. So I decided to take the 3m battens. It is important to use knotless wood. Otherwise it would break if you bend it.

@jacquesgrove70092 жыл бұрын
I wonder if one could find a way to do this with PVC rather than wood, as wood is prohibitively expensive here. The main issue would be the join of the two pipes at the top. Any ideas?
@pugsymalone6539 Жыл бұрын
You can heat PVC and bend it quite a bit. Don't forget to install a ridge beam along the long axis.
