Building a gravel driveway to my cottage with only a wheelbarrow & a shovel.

The “driveway” next to my cottage consisted of mud and some grass that was sporadically growing. This winter it turned into a mudslide. Now that the sun is out, it was time to get some gravel on this driveway, so that access my cottage well. I did the whole project only using simple tools. Hello Robin, the problem with the mud next to the cottage in the driveway is the water management. The hill is right there next to the driveway so will always have water come down to the house. You should install french drain system underground to drain water away from the driveway toward downhill.

I takes a lot of effort and energy and time to do a lot of stuff. Sometimes people who are capable of reaching the end of a project don’t because they give up. This is great escapism for me in a way, such a big diffirence from usual life.. makes it seem like modern day problems dont really exist anymore. Does anyone feel like this as well or am I romantacizing to much rn? Is it really like that?

It definitely put things into perspective, it’s impressive how advanced our technology is and how easy such “simple” jobs are when machinery is used. Really impressive what human were able to build back in the day with just simple tools

I’m from a small farm, where We had some awful mud. I know that there are one nedleds work to keep the drive way dry! Absolutely fantastic work!

Good work, mattock and crowbar helps, then just use the shovel to scoop the loose dirt

Haha yeah I might do that next time, I also need to dig some drainage holes, that need to be at least a meter deep and 1.5 meters wide. So for that I’ll probably hire a digger. The ground is also becoming very hard as there’s lots of sun
