Students Maya Lin and Rory Grant of the Grayson School in Radnor, PA interviewed staff at the PA Lumber Museum as part of a documentary they created for the 2023 National History Day (NHD) competition.
NHD is an educational non-profit organization that engages teachers and students in historical research. In the fall of the school year, middle and high school students choose a topic related to the competition’s annual theme and do extensive primary and secondary research. After analyzing and interpreting their resources and drawing conclusions on their topics, students creatively present their research projects as original papers, exhibits, performances, websites, or documentaries. These projects are entered into contests in the spring at local levels with the top winners in local competitions advancing to the state and national level of the contest.
The 2023 NHD theme was “Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas.” Maya and Rory focused their research on the Civilian Conservation Corps and its steps toward helping Pennsylvania build a green future.
