A couple things. I want it! I'm adding a crow to my to-do list now. I also want one of those traffic lights! I'd suggest some spray foam on the base to turn your braces into just more snarly roots to the ground. I think there is a rule that if there is any horizontal space it must end up covered in tools and things before the project is done!
@Paulsprops-dc4mt Жыл бұрын
My plan was where the tree is going I'm letting the grass get tall there to hide the base. But now that i was able to match the tree fairly well, i might do that before i set it up. It's like a tornado just goes through the shop😄

Great job. I was directed here from Van Oaks Props where he credits your build and he also makes an animated crow. I also looked up the Lowe's tree you mention and it was really cheesy plastic blow mold and yours is so natural looking. Great job!

@shannondh83 Thank you. He made his own version? I'll have to check it out to see how he reworked the inner mechanism. Thanks

That prop turned out great! As a thought about the branch, perhaps you could have used the other part of the natural tree and somehow used the branch, just cut and reattach at the desired angle? It's not that important because the way you did it also works and I think the wing flapping mechanism is brilliant... a lot to like about this prop.
@Paulsprops-dc4mt Жыл бұрын
Thank you, I did attempt using a piece of the extra leftover. I just couldn't make it look natural. it just looked like an add-on. So i went back to my homemade branch.

That even happen when working on putting up my props in the yard. Extra cords, wires, etc be everywhere

Wiring can be a pain for sure. Especially with a cemetery display. Harder to hide them.

I was wondering if you could help me. I want to have a cemetery sign where one of the letters looks like it’s falling down and have the letter look like it rocks in the wind back and forth. Is there a motor that only turns halfway?
@Paulsprops-dc4mt Жыл бұрын
No, without a control board to automatically switch the direction. Now, the motor in the video i put it in the description. That one, if you put something in its way, it will change direction. Like the letter that is swinging if you put a stopper on each side so it stops like a nail or something motor will sense resistance and change direction. That's why i used it in this prop, so if something makes the wings stop, it won't hurt the prop or motor. But stick with low rpm ones will work better for what you are looking to do. Hope this helps.

So wasn't going to be looking at this for this year, but decided I could get some materials together and make it a winter project. How did you make the cut on the back of the crow so neatly? As I examine the one I bought it seems there is a number of fine wires running in and around the feathers. I don't want to start random cutting and end up with a mess. Any follow up video of crow dissection or tips would be appreciated.
@Paulsprops-dc4mt Жыл бұрын
The wings them selves, i pulled them out. Since i wasn't going to use them, i wasn't worried about them getting damaged. Then i used a pair of tin snips to cut the back. I used those because you can make turns with them while cutting. Plus, they go through the plastic with ease. Sorry, i didn't show a little more on that part.
